Obituary of Michael Joseph Kowalik

After spending a day playing cribbage and surrounded by his family, Michael peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the age of 98. He was a loving husband for 67 years to Shirley. Michael was a dad who was always there to help his children with anything they needed. He will be missed by his children Mike (Sharon), Brian and Darlene. A devoted Papa to Leandra, Miranda, Brittany (Ryan), Brian Jr., and Jamie (Michelle). Michael was a cherished great-grampy to Presley, Westley, Everleigh, Lidia, Isabella and Noah. He has been reunited with his beloved granddaughter Maeghan.

Michael spent his career proudly crafted candy for numerous companies. His dedication and craftsmanship earned him the affectionate nickname “Candy Man,” a testament to the joy he brought to so many through his work. After retiring from Dare, Michael enjoyed a well-earned rest, though his love for life and adventure never waned.

An avid athlete, Michael was always up for a challenge. He spent countless hours enjoying bowling, playing pool, competing in horseshoes, and dancing, activities that brought him joy and connected him with friends and family. His energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and he remained independent and active well into his later years.

His legacy of kindness, work ethic, and love for life will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a community of friends and family who will forever cherish the memories of his generous spirit and unwavering independence.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 3:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #479 5603 Spring St, Niagara Falls, ON.

If desired, the family requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Michael.
