Obituary of Melvin "Mel" Arthur McInnis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mel McInnis on Monday, January 2, 2023. Mourning his loss are his wife Leslie McInnis, son Adam McInnis (Christina), daughter Laura Krauss (David), sister Marilyn Bilotta (Domenic), brother-in-law John Auld (Allison), sisters-in-law Lori Mann, Lisa Auld (Kevin) and Rosemarie Auld, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Dorothy McInnis.

Mel’s greatest joy was his family, and he has left us with a lifetime of memories to cherish. He is remembered fondly as a funny, strong and sensitive husband and father who gave great big bear hugs. He was a jack-of-all-trades, a major movie buff and loved camping with his family.

Mel was an avid model railroader, and his love of trains was known to all. We know he was at peace when his final train departed the station. We are extremely thankful for the excellent care Mel received from the staff at GNGH, and the compassion they showed toward us.

In keeping with Mel's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Friends and family are invited to an open house on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 2:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m at Fairhaven Seniors Building, 3568 Montrose Road in Niagara Falls.

Mel was someone who always brought a smile to your face. He always greeted with me with “hello little lady”, and a little smirk on his face and you knew he was genuinely happy to see you. Growing up I remember spending time at Leslie and Mel’s on Thorold Stone Rd, where Mel loved to show us his trains, he had the best movie collection and introduced me to the movie Top Gun, which is still my favourite, and he would always bring me mint oreos from work if he knew I would be there. Throughout the years I would receive small little items from Mel if he knew it was something I enjoyed. It’s those little things I will remember about Mel, the small gestures that meant a lot. 💜

Thinking of you all.

Leslie , Marilyn , Dom & family .

So very sad to learn of Mel’s passing . As a cousin living far away I was always up to date with Mel’s life & family by Marilyn. In the 90’s I visited aunt Dorothy with my mother June (McInnis)
almost twice a year ,hoping to see both Mel & Marilyn , and I agree with another post here ,Mel was a worker !
Unfortunately , many times he was working the horrible ‘overnight shift ‘ and would need to sleep during the day. But on the occasions we did catch up, wow he was so entertaining a real
With his love for model trains ( inherent from Cecil ) and to the lengths of acquiring investigative news clippings and his Genealogy research ( which I think was a gift one year ) on the McInnis clan. He was a Star ….the TV show ” Who do you think you are ” doesn’t even come close to what he achieved. I appreciated all the information he gathered and passed on to the family & me .
All of us , in our lives have experienced & survived the Good , the Bad , and the Ugly ( don’t know if he was a fan of that film ? ) But Mel did , one wishes for so much in hindsight .
Thinking of you all ,the McInnis family ,with love .

Uncle Mel was one of those people that, no matter what was going on, his great big giant hug, and the genuine happiness that he expressed just to see me would make any bad day better. I have so many little memories that stick out, but the one for me that will always stick as my personal image of Uncle Mel is being about 10 years old, sitting at the table, eating dinner, and I look up, and out of nowhere he has decided to stick sliced peppers in his gums, and make silly faces, and noises just to make me laugh. That is the Uncle Mel I know and remember, and it’s that face that will forever be my image of him, smiling, and laughing with the people he loved most: his family. All of my love and positive wishes go out to you, Aunt Les, Adam, and Laura, and Marilyn and Dom of course aswell. He’s on an old train with John Wayne somewhere where he will never run out of track. Rest peacefully, Uncle Mel. I will always love you. Xox
