Obituary of Maureen "Moe" Peters

July 18, 1956 - April 6, 2023

It is with profound sadness Maureen's family announces her passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer at her mom's home surrounded by loved ones. Left to mourn is her mother Pearl Maves, brother Randy Peters (Mary), twin sister Laureen (Craig), stepbrothers Kevin (Denise), Jim (Diane), John & Alan Maves; uncle and aunt Graden & Lorna Miller, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends. Welcoming her at the Golden Gate is her father Kitchener Peters, Step-Dad Roland (Butch) Maves (2018), brothers Rick (1993) & Rory (2018).

Maureen was born in New Liskeard and moved to Niagara Falls at an early age. She worked many years in the automotive industry, auto body repair and painting. After retirement she had her own lawn maintenance and snow removal business. She was a natural athlete, embracing all sports, excelling in Ladies Hockey (Niagara Red Wings) and Softball (Silver Streaks/Bullets) and winning many awards, followed by golf and curling which became her passion until she became ill.

Maureen was the kindest, most genuine, endearing, funny and giving soul who put all others ahead of herself. Her infectious smile, vivacious personality and sense of humour attracted many. Always eager to be part of family gatherings, she loved to watch her nieces and nephews participate in their sports. She was loved and will be dearly missed but never forgotten by all who touched her life.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 22nd at the Niagara Falls Curling Club, 5801 Morrison Street, Niagara Falls from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation to the Niagara Falls Curling Club or your favourite charity in her memory would be much appreciated by her family.

We wish to thank Dr. Nica, Dr. Donavan and their teams at the Juravinski Cancer Center in Hamilton. From Niagara Falls: Dr. Kaptein, the ParaMed PSWs, Nurses Liliya & Geneva who cared so lovingly for Maureen throughout her journey.

My deepest condolences to you Pearl and your family. I have fond memories of Moe dating back to the late 70’s when we both played ladies fastball. I recall Moe’s kind soul & healthy competition when playing against & a lot of good laughs when away at tournaments playing on the same team.

I was saddened to hear that Moe passed away.

Back in the days, it was truly an honour playing softball and ball hockey alongside such a talented player as Moe. Her glowing smile and kindness was always forthcoming.

Her encouragement helped me through a rough spot in my life. I considered her a special person and friend, and she will always have a place in my heart.

Sometimes, throughout the years, people drift apart with the “busy”ness in our lives. But thoughts of those “special people” and the memories will be imprinted forever. Moe was one of those very special ones!

May you find comfort in knowing that Moe has touched so many people with her kindness and friendship throughout all her years.

My sincere condolences are extended to Pearl, Laureen, family and friends.
