Obituary of Mary Alexandra Martin
Mary Alexandra Martin peacefully passed away on May 12, 2024, just three days past her 102nd birthday. She was predeceased by her husband in 1985, as well as her siblings Rob, George, Winnifred, Isabelle, Francis, and Frieda.Mary is survived by her loving children: Wayne, Gail (Howard) Disher, and Brian (Shirley), along with her cherished grandchildren: Aaron, Shane, Deborah (Fern), Jeffrey (Michele), Jason (Sandra), Justin, Phoebe (Brad), Sean, and Dayna (Dave). Her legacy continues with 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Mary dedicated herself to raising her children and creating a warm, welcoming home where family always came first. She possessed a multitude of talents, from knitting and crocheting to cooking and baking, and she could often be found enjoying a game of cards, a pastime she delighted in until her final days.
Known for her caring and generous nature, Mary never expected anything in return for her kindness. Her independent spirit and sharp wit, coupled with a touch of sarcasm, never failed to bring a smile to those around her, including the dedicated PSWs who cared for her.
For 15 years, Mary enthusiastically participated in the Woodlands of Sunset Day Program, making the journey on her own via bus. She shared her passion for knitting with fellow residents, leaving behind a legacy of hand-knitted items including socks and toques that will be treasured by her entire family and those who were lucky enough to be gifted her creations.
The family extends a special thank-you to the exceptional PSWs from St. Elizabeth who provided unwavering support for many years, as well as the nurses on the 4th floor at NHS - Welland Site during her final days.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Woodlands of Sunset, an organization close to Mary's heart, would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences to the family. I was Mary’s letter carrier for many years on Dieppe St. She was a wonderful woman, and I enjoyed stopping in daily to visit while delivering the mail. Mary often made me a western sandwich for lunch. I am very sorry to hear that she has passed.
