Obituary of Martha Hill

Passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital (Woolcott Wing) on August 1, 2023, at the age of 78 years old. Martha was the loving mother to her children, Peter Hill (Carrie Chan), Jeffrey Hill and Crystal Hill. Cherished and adored Gramma to Tessa Wurfel, Chelsea Wurfel, Karly Wurfel, Kacy Hill, Tristan Hill, Riley Hill, and Ryan Hill.

Martha was born on June 13, 1945 in Quebec City, QC. As a single mother, she poured her heart into raising her children and building a life filled with joy, love, and laughter. Martha's abiding faith in God was the foundation of her life, and her love for the church was a testament to her spiritual dedication. She generously volunteered her time at the Hope Centre and Southridge Church, embodying the spirit of selflessness and community service. Martha's joyful presence and warm smile lit up any room she entered, making her a true go-getter and a beacon of light and positivity for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A lover of the outdoors, Martha found solace in fishing, camping, bottle digging, and treasure hunting. Her adventurous spirit was a reflection of her vibrant personality, and her determination knew no bounds. While her strength was evident in her character, she also possessed a stubborn streak that only added to her unique charm. Her simple pleasures, such as enjoying a cigarette, coffee, and an occasional Pepsi, were emblematic of the small moments that brought her happiness. Her culinary talents were celebrated by all who tasted her sandwiches, as nobody could craft a sandwich quite like Martha. Her legacy will live on not only through her family and friends but also through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.

In her final days, Martha was blessed to receive compassionate care at the Welland Hospital Woolcott Wing. The nurses, especially Nurse Janine, provided unparalleled support and comfort, allowing Martha to find peace in her last moments. The family is immensely grateful for the exceptional care that was given.

Martha's indomitable spirit and boundless love will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift, reminding us all to live life to the fullest, to cherish our loved ones, and to embrace each day with a positive and grateful heart.

In keeping with Martha's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, August 31, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Southridge Community Church, 414 River Rd, Welland. If desired, memorial donations to the Hope Centre would be greatly appreciated.
