Obituary of Marlene Martha McClemont

Marlene Martha McClemont (née Etherington) peacefully passed away at Douglas Memorial Hospital on September 28, 2024. Born on August 1, 1941, in Welland, she was the beloved daughter of Edward and Louisa Etherington, both of whom predeceased her.

Marlene is survived by her loving sons: Ken (Diane), Kevin (Shelley) , Mike (Valeriee), and Daniel (Laura). She will be missed by her ten grandchildren: Grant (Meagan), Daniel, Myranda, Paige, Shawn, Dylan, Mackenzie, Amber, Andrew and Amy, as well as her five great-grandchildren: Max, Aubrey, Ava, Logan, and Avery. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia (Ken) and Eleanor (Jim), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Marlene held a special place in her heart for her companion Bob Overholt and her little chihuahua, Soogee.

For many years, Marlene worked at the Mohawk Racetrack in concessions, where her straightforward nature, wit, and humor endeared her to many. A true lover of animals, she believed in honesty above all else, famously stating, “never lie!”

Marlene's passion for her home and garden was evident; she took great pride in keeping them immaculate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Greater Niagara.

In keeping with Marlene's wishes, cremation has taken place, and arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services.
