1924 - 2023
Obituary of Marjorie Eileen Faragher (nee Burtwell)
Marjorie Eileen Faragher, nee Burtwell, in her 99th year, passed peacefully with her family by her side, on August 23, 2023. Born November 28, 1924, at the Niagara Cottage Hospital in Niagara-on-the-Lake, to Robert M. Burtwell and Eva Maud (Anderson) Burtwell, Marjorie was the youngest of nine children. Marge was predeceased by her husband Arnold in 2003. She is survived by her children Bert (Darlene), Fred (Lesley), Rob (Jayna) and Marnee (Mike). Cherished grandma of Jason, Chad, Robert, Michelle, Brad and Kate. Affectionately known as GG, her great grandchildren loved her dearly and will miss her. Aunt Marge will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.Marge and Arnold raised their children in the beautiful village of St. David's, ON and were part of the community having been involved with The Lions Club. When they retired, they moved to Matachewan in Northern Ontario where they enjoyed fishing, camping and cross-country skiing. When Arnold passed, Marge returned to the Niagara area to be closer to her family. Throughout her life, Marjorie found joy in simple pleasures. She often found solace in the beauty of nature, enjoying scenic trips across the country. An accomplished swimmer and water skier when she was younger, she loved adventure and went skydiving in her early 80's. Marjorie witnessed countless milestones and changes in the world during her life. Her resilience was an inspiration to those around her. Her sense of humour will be forever cherished, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire.
A special thank you to her friends Barb and Ken Halbert who unselfishly gave of their time and compassion which allowed her to stay in her home and keep her independence far longer than she would have been able without their help and for which her family is very grateful. We are also grateful to her nephew Bobby Burtwell and niece Ruth Robinson who spent countless hours of joy playing pinochle with her and helping her. We appreciate the care the March of Dimes provided to her in her home as well as the support from her caregiver, Rosa. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Extendicare for the kindness, dignity and comfort that they provided during her end-of-life care. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11 am, at the St. Davids-Queenston United Church, 1453 York Road, St. David's, Ontario followed by an Inurnment in the church's cemetery. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to a charity of your choice.
'May Marjorie's soul find eternal peace and may her memory forever be a blessing to us all.'

Sending my condolences to the family. We purchased her home when she decided to move away from Matachewan and would look forward to her yearly visits which included a boat ride to Alcatraz to visit her late husband. When she couldn’t make the trip any longer we promised to continue visiting Mr. Faragher’s island for her. We feel blessed to have been able to call her home here in Matachewan our home. Again, sorry for your loss, she was a special lady.
Sending our condolences to Aunt Marge’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a dear Aunt to me and my family. Bert, Fred, Rob and Marnee, hold your memories close to your heart.
Hugs to all of you, Anita and Jim
My condolences to you and Lesley! Hope you are doing well
I grew up knowing Aunt Marge as someone very close in age to my Mom Patricia and my Mom’s sister Geraldine. Both were her nieces from my Grandmother Helen. I enjoyed time with Aunt Marge and Uncle Red and my cousin Marnee on my first big trip to Ontario and Niagara falls. I am actually Aunt Marges great niece and Marnee and I are only a year a part me being the oldest. I loved Aunt Marge’s trips out west her and her funky sense of humour. Im proud to say she was my Aunt and happy that I am part of the family. Rest easy Aunt Marge. Until we meet.
Fred
My condolences to you and Lesley.
My condolences on the passing of your mother. I remember her as a very tolerant person during our younger years when we were ‘running about’ the village and a dynamic lacrosse fan (along with Jean Taylor). She is fondly remembered.
Dear Rob and Jayna,
I was sorry to read in the paper of the death of your Mom, Rob. She must have been a good role and showed you to follow the good path in life.

Do not stand by my grave, and weep,
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints in snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning’s hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand by my grave, and cry,
I am not there,
I did not die.
