Obituary of Maria Felicita Piccolo

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Maria Felicita Piccolo, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 7, 2020, at the age of 87. A woman with boundless energy and love who worked tirelessly to provide for her 9 children in a home that always held the comforting aroma of delicious traditional Italian meals. She was a master cook. She will truly be missed. Devoted wife of the late Filomeno Ralph Piccolo (2001). Mother of Emma Picciarello (Michael), the late Josephine (Nick) Stranges, Rosanna (Tony) Stranges, Carmela Notarianni (the late Augusto Visca), Amelia (Bill) Kemp, Lena Costa (Jim Garritano), Lucy (Randy) Heanssgen, Joe Piccolo and Rita Zabor. Loving Nonna to 18 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren. Maria has two surviving sisters August (the late Pasquale) McCree and Dora (the late Carlo) Peron. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Maria’s family would like to send a special thank you to all of Niagara’s City bus drivers for their kindness in helping her enjoy her freedom and independence, well into her later years. To Dr. Rosa and all of her home care team, thank you. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to her grandchildren Gino and Dolores and their son Michael, who opened up their loving home to the whole family, to share in the remainder of Nonna’s life. To her granddaughter, Felisha, who devoted nursing care to her Nonna. Felisha, know that Nonna cherished all of your time spent together. Your dedication has been a blessing to us all. To Felisha’s partner, Chris, thank you for all of your support and devotion.

Honouring Maria’s wishes, a private funeral will be held.

Sending God’s blessings to all.

I have wonderful Memories of Maria. Such a loving person. She had so much energy it was amazing. I would often see her walking and offer her a ride but she loved taking the bus. She was a Ray of Sunshine and always gave me a compliment. She always lifted my spirits. The World needs more people like Maria. (She will be missed).

To Maria’s family
I was totally saddened to read about this. I ran into her a few times on the bus. She was totally independent pulling on her cart full of groceries. She never complained waiting and taking the bus around the city.
God Bless her and may she R.I.P.
I will miss seeing her on the bus.

My deepest condolences to all of Maria’s family. As a Niagara Falls Transit Operator it was a pleasure to work with your Mother on board. Always a pleasant greeting of “Bella!”
We should all be so lucky to have her energy and exuberance in our later years. So sorry for your
( and our) loss.

We , at the Coronation Fitness classes will miss Maria. She was so strong and active for so long. She worked so hard in class and many people said they wanted to be like her when they grew up. I remember one day in class Emma came to class as well and offered her a ride home and she refused. She said she wanted to take the bus! So independent. I will miss her doing her abdominal crunches in my class. My condolences to all her family.

So sorry for the entire Piccolo family for the loss of their beloved mother, Nonna, and Great-Nonna.. Find peace in the knowledge that she is no longer in pain, and she has joined her loved ones who had to leave before her, and find comfort in knowing that you will all meet again 💕

As a former bus driver I enjoyed every minute with Maria. She was always so kind to me and brought treats to the drivers. She was definitely feisty and full of life. I am so sad she is gone. Love and prayers to her family. Maria was one in a million. Xo

My condolences to the family. Marie was an amazing lady, she was a joy to have on my bus and had a smile for me every time she rode. Always “how are you Bella”. She will be very much missed

I am so sorry for you loss. I only knew Maria briefly. There are many stories I could share. The one that really sticks out is the day she stood at the bus stop yelling at a car for parking at the stop…It was a big car and she stood in front of it yelling and giving them heck for parking there..I am sure you can hear, and visualize how she would have done that. I always enjoyed her riding on my bus, you never new what she was going to say.
