Obituary of Maria Campopiano

On January 3, 2024, the world lost a very strong, loving and courageous woman, Maria Campopiano (born March 13, 1956).

Maria, born in Italy, carried her Italian roots and traditions all the way through her life. She prided herself on taking care of those around her. If she could help in any way, she was there. After losing her mother at a young age, she selflessly took care of her family and assumed that role. Family was everything to her and gave meaning to her life.

Once she was able to make time for herself again many years later, she was able to return to school and build a beautiful career as a hairstylist. Her clients and coworkers meant so much to her. She missed them so much.

Her food will be forever missed by her family as this was her way of expressing her love to others. From the most amazing sauce you’ve ever had to her tradition of making zeppole with her daughter on Christmas Day.

She was happiest in her garden and thankfully had one last burst of energy to redesign her gardens and give herself something beautiful to sit with and be proud of. Her addiction to buying plants is unfortunately passed on to her daughter Evonne.

She was a wonderful single mother and worked endlessly to provide for her daughter, for which Evonne will be eternally grateful. Evonne was her everything and they travelled through life together as a team and will continue to do so going forward.

She is survived by brothers Sam (Karen), John (Carol). Was a loving aunt to Adrian, Anna, Allan, Anthony, Loui, Roseann. Cousin to countless, both here in Canada and overseas in Italy. Loving friend to her dearest and the many people that crossed her path. Maria joins her brother Tony and parents Luigi and Anna in a more peaceful place.

Donations can be made to one of two amazing organizations: Gilda’s Club Toronto and/or Wellspring Niagara.

Offering my sincerest sympathy to Maria’s daughter, Evonne and the whole family. I met Maria 15 years ago at a local salon. She was a great stylist; I would call her the lady with “golden hands”. She was a talented, steadfast, hardworking, lady with a great sense of perserverance and determination. Sometimes she would discuss her family of which she was so proud, sometimes her travels and sometimes her travails. I though she was a remarkable person. I will miss her terribly as, I had so much respect for her tenacity and talent. She is now resting in eace devoid of any pain and sorrow.

Dearest Maria
We met many years ago, went through high school, had many adventures and fun times in your red Mustang,, weddings and children Such good memories.
I always would say you were the strongest woman I knew, this still holds true today. I am thankful we had all this time together. We reconnected last year through my sister Franca. Was nice to speak with Evonne. What a wonderful young woman you raised. My heartfelt condolences to you Evonne, and to your uncles and their families.

Evonne, your mother was my hairdresser for many years until she got sick. I have missed seeing and talking with her. I am sorry to hear she lost her fight against cancer. I wanted you to know that she spoke of you always and was very proud of the young woman you have become.
Please accept my condolences during this difficult time and remember that she will forever and always be a part of you.
