Obituary of Margaret Anne Sloan

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Retired Toronto EMS Communications Supervisor Margaret Sloan (known previously as Marg Gouthro) at 89 years of age.

Margaret passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the hospice unit inside the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara falls, Ontario, on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 8:46 AM.

Margaret passed away from complications from a previous stroke this year.

Margaret started her Ambulance career as a Dispatcher on June 18, 1973 with Metro Toronto Ambulance and retired on March 31, 1994 after 21 years of dedicated service. Margaret was one of the first few female dispatchers hired in June 1973. After rising in the ranks Margaret was promoted to a Communications Supervisor.

Margaret was one of the first females to be promoted to Communications Supervisor. Margaret also met retired Toronto EMS EMD Brent Goodwin Sr. in the 1970s and they eventually became a couple living together for the last 35 years and retiring to Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life is being planned by the family in the Spring of 2026 to allow time for distant family members to attend.
