Obituary of Manfred D. Eilmes
With heavy hearts and extreme sadness we would like to announce the peaceful passing of Freddy at NHS-St. Catharines Site. Predeceased by his parents Heinrich & Herta. Brother of Margaret Halbert (Gord), Astrid Typer (Rick) and Lily Colucci (Mario). Also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Our brother, Freddy, lived his life on his terms. He did not feel compelled to follow societal norms, but rather had the courage to follow his own path and dreams. He lived a simple life, and he felt he had accomplished his life’s work as a Blacksmith, a vocation that gave him great joy, and his success was demonstrated by having worked for many large outfits in the Toronto racing circuit. He remained successfully self-employed throughout his entire life, until he retired due to health constraints. His fierce independence and courage helped sustain him through some difficult times. He rarely asked for help, even when he may have needed it. Those of us who had the privilege and honour of knowing him will forever miss his jovial laugh, his ability to tell a joke, his sense of humour, free spirit, devotion to those he loved, and his love of life itself.
One of Freddy’s favourite singers, Elvis Presley, sang a song fitting of the memory and life of our brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend…"I Did It My Way.”
While our hearts mourn his loss, we take comfort in God’s promise knowing without a doubt that we will someday be reunited.
Special thank you to the St. Catharines Site ICU and Nephrology Units for their care. A private graveside service will be held for family at McAffee Cemetery in Fort Erie.

Coming out of No Frills I had a bulky box of groceries. A guy saw me struggling with it. Soon after he offered to drive me home. I had a bicycle. Was able to put the groceries in the bicycle basket and went home. This was the first time I met Fred. Both of us were long time employees of Fort Erie racetrack. We did not know each other worked at the racetrack until I had to go to the office to renew my thoroughbred license. He was outside with a group of people.
We used to go to the Fort Erie library to read the newspapers. Soon I discovered what a good person he was. He was kind, helpful, non violent and considerate. I had many laughs listening to his stories. When wildlife showed up Fred had food for them. Fred was always willing to give to others before he thought of himself.
The world needs more people like Fred. Sharon Arendacky
I will always remember our conversations and how I could feel him laugh even though I couldn’t always see his face. I loved his passionate and convicted stance. He was strong willed. He was full of wit and fight. I admired that so much. You will be missed Uncle Freddie and remembered always. Love Krystal
Freddie was one of the most caring and thoughtful people I had the privilege to know. He will be forever in our hearts. My condolences to the Family
