Obituary of Linda Kerr

It is with great sadness that we share the untimely passing of Linda Kerr, best friend and wife of 53 years to her love Jim Kerr. Linda was the adored and loving mother of Jodie (Carl), Peta (Matt) and predeceased by her daughter Amy, 2005. (Jeff). She was the number one supporter and loving grandmother of Ben, Spencer, Paige, Keeley, Charlie, Amylia, Rachel, Jessica, Hayden, Ethan and Stella. She was also the dearly loved sister-in-law of Mary and Rob Martin. And we have to mention that she was the most doting mother to her dog Stella - much to the chagrin of many. Linda was a dear friend of everyone and will be deeply missed.

Linda was born and raised on the shores of Lake Superior at Whispering Pines where her parents ran a successful family vacation resort. The family camp on Batchawana Bay was one of Linda’s favourite places in the world where she created cherished memories. Sauna’s, theme parties, fires, water fun and sing alongs were all orchestrated by Linda and cost was never considered when it meant fun was to be had. Many secrets had to be kept from Jim while she planned these special times.

Linda was a teacher for the Lincoln County School Board specializing in Special Education where she had an impact on many students, staff and parents. She also had an impact on students in Wawa and Australia. In their Niagara home Linda hosted many occasions involving her life long friends. She was the queen of planning a party and bringing people together. She always took the festivities to the next level.....even if she often left the party early. In retirement Linda and Jim spent their winter months at their home in The Hammocks in Florida. During their time there, she made many great friends who will miss her dearly. Boating, driveway parties, and neighborhood dinners were always plentiful. If you had the pleasure of meeting Linda you never forgot her. Linda was always full of life and will forever bring a smile to your face and in many cases even make you laugh out loud, make you turn red or cringe. Filtering her words was not her strongest suit.

In December of 2019, Linda and Jim celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a wonderful party that will always give us memories of the fun loving person that Linda truly was. Planning events to make others smile was one of the ways she was easily surrounded with friends from near and far. While we are incredibly sad to lose her, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with Amy and the two of them are looking down on us.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A Celebration of Linda's Life will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 4:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m with a time of remembrance starting at 6:00 p.m. at Hernder Estates Winery 1607 Eighth Ave Louth St. Catharines. Jim I am so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. As you know, Pentti and Helen were friends of my parents our paths frequently crossed when we were kids. Linda was the occasional passenger on the rides back and forth from Windsor to the Sault. Maybe some time we might meet for c coffee and catch up ,(I live in Hamilton) Bob Levo

Dear Jim, Jodie, Peta, and families- I am so sorry for your loss and send my sincerest condolences to you all. Linda was loved by so many and will be missed.

When I think of Linda there are happy childhood memories of play dates and sleepovers at the house on Deer park, and a fun holiday to the Sioux- the first time I ran in the snow barefoot after having a sauna ( at Linda’s insistence- I loved it) ).

Linda was always there at the heart of the family- looking after everyone and making things fun. She always made me feel welcome and like part of the family -as a child and later as an adult. She had a knack for making me blush by saying funny and outrageous things!

Linda had a lovely way of keeping in touch over the years with me and ‘the girls’. She was always keen to celebrate our successes and loved seeing pictures of our kids as they grew.

Linda had an infectious love of life. She was strong, kind, generous and had a wicked sense of humour. She was a truly original and wonderful person who will be terribly missed.

I hope you can take some small comfort in knowing that she is reunited with Amy and Penny.

Sending lots of love to you all, Ali

I have been friends with Jim Kerr since public school, through high school and beyond. When Jim married Linda Saarinen, my wife Penny and I quickly became friends, and went on many trips and adventures together with our kids and after our kids grew up. Linda was a fun, vibrant, generous, and intelligent person, with some mischief in her, that I will miss forever. I hope Linda, Amy, and Penny can have some fun from above. I am so sad about this loss. Much love to all the family.
