Obituary of Kenneth (Kenn) Mitchell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Mitchell at Douglas Memorial Hospital, the 19th day of July 2021. Kenneth was a wonderful brother and bestfriend to his sister Kathryn Mitchell. He will be fondly remembered by the Mitchell and Blain family, and by his dear friends. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents Ivy and Duncan Mitchell, and his brother Dean.

Kenneth spent the last 21 years living in his home in Crystal Beach, loving life with his pets Lila and Winston. He was a very social and outgoing individual. With his warm personality and caring soul, Kenneth made friends everywhere he went. His daily exercise was always a must! He enjoyed long walks and biking, and loved spending time tending to his garden. He also had a strong passion for literature and art. Kenneth was also a volunteer at the Welland Hospital and he would volunteer alongside his therapy dog, with the St. John’s Ambulance Program, which gave him and others lots of joy and comfort. Him and his furry friend would visit nursing homes and hospitals to help bring a smile to many faces.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). As per Kenneth’s wishes cremation has taken place. The Mitchell family would like to extend a big thank you to all of the wonderful and caring nurses in the palliative care unit at the Douglas Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Kenneth’s online tribute page can be found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

I’m so terribly sad to read of Kenn’s passing. I met Kenn through a mutual friend in Oakville around 1994 and we became fast friends. Even though we lost touch in later years, I often thought of him and wondered how he was doing.

He was a kind soul who touched so many lives including mine. I’ll always remember his wonderful laugh, his sense of humor and his genuine kindness to everyone and everything. Rest peacefully my Auntie Martha.

We were so heartbroken to learn of Kenn’s passing. Kenn was such a warm and caring individual. We were so fortunate when we were introduced to him. As we live in New York, Kenn and Sir would check on our cottage year round to make sure all was well. As we haven’t been able to use it for almost two years, it was far too long since we had visited with him last, but we did keep in touch with email. We will always remember our visits on his deck, catching up on all of the news at the beach. Rest in peace dear friend. Thinking of you, Kathie, and hope we are able to meet one day.

I still can’t wrap my head around it, so very very sorry, too soon, too fast.
I do have a lot of very good memories of fun times Kenn and I shared, in and around Crystal Beach, Fort Myers, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.
Kathie my heart goes out to you. Stay strong.

What a sad loss. We’ve been friends for over 50 years and he was such an important part of our life. Always there. Always fun. Always considerate. Such good memories from Toronto, Vancouver, Richmond Hill, Oakville and Crystal Beach.
Will deeply miss you Kenn. Safe voyage.
Deepest condolences to Kathie.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of one of the nicest men I have ever met in my life. Kenn was always there waiting with a cup of coffee whenever I would show up and we would try to solve the problems of the world together. All the best to Kathie and know that someday we will all get together again.
