Obituary of Kathleen "Kay" Irene Adams (née Sweeney)

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen "Kay" Irene Adams (née Sweeney), peacefully at home on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in Welland, Ontario, at the age of 81.

Kay was born to Bert and Hilda Sweeney, the 9th of 10 children. She has been reunited with her seven siblings: Ralph, Helen, Doreen, Harold, Peggy, Jim, and Sharon, her grandson Mark; and her son-in-law of 30 years, Ron Burd.

She will be deeply missed by her best friend and husband of 55 years, Albert, her 6 children: Lyn (Joe), Jennifer (Judy), Mark, Kathleen (Don), April, and Robert, her grand children Jason, Sarah, Matthew, Adam, Brandon, Amanda, Samantha, Alexis, Tyler, Megan, Frank, Sharon, and Ashley; as well as her 19 great grandchildren, her brother Bob (Sue) and sister Nora, along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Kay was raised on a farm in Keswick, Ontario and was eager to start her life in Toronto at the tender age of 18. She had already overcome more than most by this time. This is what made her the strong, determined woman she was. Kay was in remission from leukemia, having fought the fight without complaint.

We would like to thank Dr. Maida from the Walker Family Cancer Centre for her above and beyond care and compassion shown throughout the years. We find solace in knowing that Kay has finally found peace and may rest for eternity. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay's memory may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre and would be greatly appreciated by her family.

As per Kay's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland.
