Obituary of Joy Villeneuve (née MacKenzie)

Joy Lauraine Villeneuve (née MacKenzie) passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Friday January 5, 2024. She has been reunited with her parents, Simon and Laura, her sister Sheila Murray (Mike) and brother Hugh MacKenzie. Joy leaves behind her loving daughter, Jill Zizzo, and her favorite son-in-law, Carl, her dear brother Bruce Mackenzie, her companion for more than 25 years, Mike Neri, his children, Mike (Rhonda) and Kristine. She was the adored Gramma Joy to Olivia and Sam and Mackenzie. Joy will be deeply missed by her nieces, Meredith, Michelle, Laurie, Marianne and Kristy and nephews Jason and Brian.

Following in her father's footsteps, Joy became a police officer, making her the first female officer in York Region. Known for her love of entertaining, Joy brought people together, whether at the cottage on Thirty Island Lake in the summer or in Florida during the winter. She took great pleasure in cooking big family dinners and creating warm and inviting spaces for all to enjoy. No one was a stranger to Joy, only friends she hadn't made yet.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place, with arrangements entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Niagara Falls. A celebration of Joy's life will be held in the summer at the cottage, a place that held special significance to her, her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. May we remember Joy for her vibrant spirit, her love for family and friends, and the countless memories she created through her generosity and warmth.

She will live on in our hearts and the stories shared by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

We are saddened to hear of Joy’s passing. She was such a nice person. Always welcoming us whenever we saw her( and Mike). Whether it was in Ontario( at the cottage) or in Florida. She always took care of preparing our place for us before we arrived next door to them in Florida. She did it without hesitation. We had lots of good times together in Florida. Daily chats, and get togethers for food and drinks. She loved going out to eat and we always tagged along.
So happy we got to see her in Niagara last May. She was busy though,as she was practically running the place. That was Joys way. She was a strong person and a very, very nice one. We will miss her.
