Obituary of Joseph Kaldi
With sadness we announce that on Thursday, October 31, 2024, Joseph "Joe" Kaldi passed away surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at the NHS-St. Catharines Site at the age of 85, after a brief illness. He has been reunited with his daughter Kathy (2021) and his sister Merika. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 64 years Linda Kaldi (née Bews). Joseph was an amazing Papa to his three grandsons; Joshua Bozich, Blayne Bozich and Joseph Young (Caitlin York) and to his great-granddaughter Athena Bozich. He will be terribly missed by his brother John in Switzerland, as well as all of the friends he made at the race tracks and Fleet Canada and anyone who had the priviledge of knowing him.Born in Hungary, Joe bravely escaped during the revolution, finding refuge in Italy before making his way to Ontario. In 1960, he settled in Fort Erie, where he met Linda, the love of his life. Together, they created a home filled with laughter and love. Joe was passionate about cooking, particularly his famous cabbage rolls and traditional Hungarian dishes. Sunday dinners with family were a highlight of his week, often featuring his veal.
An avid horse racing enthusiast, he spent countless hours at the Fort Erie Race Track, sharing his love for the sport, and eventually purchasing horses for himself. He dedicated many years to his career as a Tool Supervisor at Fleet Canada, where he was respected for his hard work and leadership.
Fluent in multiple languages, he had a way of connecting with people from all walks of life, embodying the spirit of a true socialite. His outgoing nature and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Niagara Falls. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at a later date in 2025. If desired, the family asks that donations be made to The Optimist Club in Fort Erie where Joe volunteered a lot of his time.
