Obituary of Joseph (Joe) Gerald Kovacs

It breaks our hearts to announce that on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, just 3 days into his 83rd year, Joseph Gerald Kovacs passed away at the NHS-Welland Site. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He has been reunited with his beloved wife Sharon Kovacs (2023), parents George and Madeline (née Janvari) and his sister Irene Hoover. His legacy of love will live on in the hearts of his dear children; Cheryl-Ann Kovacs (Dan Napper), Daniel Kovacs (Tanya Mark) and Sandra Kovacs (John Silenzi). Joe was a proud Papa to Alexandra and Jeremy; an honouray Papa to Owen and Emma. He will be terribly missed by his loving sister Elizabeth Parker (Jack), brother-in-law Darwin Hoover as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and by his long time friends Al and Collette Lacroix and John Silenzi Sr.

Joe was a welder by trade and worked for a long period in this profession. He started at Inco and retired from Atlas Steel. Known for his strong will and gentle nature, Joe was a quiet yet social presence who touched the lives of many. He lived a life full of passion and dedication. His unwavering commitment to taking care of things promptly was a testament to his strong character and reliability. Joe enjoyed a variety of activities that brought him joy. He had a deep appreciation for moose hunting, a pastime he cherished. On weekends, he could often be found on the golf course or playing Euchre with the men's league in Port Colborne, tending to his vegetable garden, or swimming in his pool. Cooking was another of his great loves, and he took pride in preparing meals for those he cared about. A fan of relaxation and entertainment, he found pleasure in watching sitcoms, with “Friends” being a particular favorite. He also enjoyed the challenge of games like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy," as well as engaging in crossword and word search puzzles.
Joe was well-liked by those around him, known for his friendly demeanor and readiness to lend a hand. His presence will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the care that Joe received from all the staff at NHS-Welland Site.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and would be appreciated by his family.
