Obituary of Joseph Andre Brazil

Joseph Andre Brazil

Passed away on October 14, 2020, at Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 70. Dedicated husband to Trudy for 34 years of marriage, and caring father to Daniel and Kristopher. Remembered and missed by his three brothers, five sisters and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joseph is predeceased by his parents Leo and Charlotte Brazil.

Joseph was born and raised in Newfoundland and as a child he always loved the sea. Some of his fondest memories of the province included trips to the woods with his Dad and three brothers. He longed for those walks and always wanted to go back to those times. He continued this tradition by taking his sons on walks in the woods. Joseph was a deeply spiritual man and was an avid reader of the Bible, and read widely for pleasure and understanding. He was a self-taught musician, taking part in singing, strumming the guitar, or playing the harmonica. He frequently would play at home for his family as a hobby and played in a band with his brothers when he was young. Anyone who heard him sing and play can attest to his passion and energy to perform musically. Joseph’s favourite band he listened and played to was Creedence Clearwater Revival, but he also loved a little Johnny Cash, The Animals, and often stated that the greatest voice to ever sing was Roy Orbison. Joseph was extremely passionate and loved his job as an Ironworker. He would show up early to job sites, always eager to get the day started. He worked many high-profile jobs including work on the Niagara Falls Casinos, at worksites in Alberta, and many large skyscrapers in Toronto as well as the Skydome (Rogers Centre). Even in his sickness he wondered how soon he could get back to work. His inspiring and tireless work ethic reflect his strong spirit. Together with his family, they loved watching hockey and rooting for the Montreal Canadiens. Joseph cherished his family and was a provider. Words cannot capture how much he will be missed by his family and those who knew him.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lloyd Semelhago from the Hamilton Health Sciences who performed Joseph’s heart surgery, Major Renee Clarke from Eventide for visiting him during his sickness, and to especially thank Dr. Ryuta Nagai (nephrologist) for not just doing his job but going out of his way to help our family.

Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. Cremation has taken place at Holy Cross Catholic Cremation Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society or to the Niagara Health System’s Palliative Care in Niagara Falls would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be left on Joseph’s tribute page at EssentialsNiagara.com

So sorry for your loss Trudy, your boys and the Brazil family. Joe had a heart of gold and will surely be missed. My fondest memory of Joe was when he came to mine and Brian’s Jack and Jill party and brought his guitar. It was quite the party with him not only playing the guitar but also singing until the wee hours. RIP Joe.
