Obituary of Jon Arstikaitis

With sorrow, we announce the death of Jon Arstikaitis on Monday, July 24, 2023. Jon was known for his talents in building and exacting craftsmanship. His family, friends and clients knew they could rely on him for his vast wealth of knowledge in not only construction but in life itself. Never afraid to hold back on his opinion or a joke and a knack for telling it like it was, including asking “Didn’t you check the weather?” Known for his mastery in the kitchen and delights on the BBQ. Jon was a very generous person, a loving husband, father and friend. An important and influential person in his life was his loving late sister, Maryte. Throughout his life she was a guiding influence and amazing support system for Jon. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, his daughters Pamela and Jennifer and his grandson Albert. Another love of his life was his previous doberman Cleo who recently passed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doberman Rescue at 10911 ON-9, Caledon, ON L7E 0G5 or via transfer at [email protected].

Dede Jonas (Uncle John in lithuanian) was my uncle. He gave me one of my first summer jobs doing demolition on renos he worked on and in that time, he always modelled the hard work that was a hallmark of his life. One of the most resilient memories I have of him is the time he gifted me a tool box full of necessities for the time I moved away from home to university. He filled the box with the right tools, brackets, knick-knacks and spare wiring required for any small repair I might encounter in my own new place. And in so doing, he’s been the source of so many fixes and improvements in my life. I have the toolbox to this day and use it weekly where is influence continues.

Lorraine and girls
Jon was such a nice guy. My little Lou Lou just adored him. He was a really good cook, boy could he BBQ a mean steak. He will be greatly missed. 🥀

Jon was born into a family who cherished hard work [his parents operated a flower greenhouse in Brampton], religious conviction and family values – both here and in Lithuania [ his parents ran just ahead of the Russian invasion into Germany in 1944].
After high school he studied to become an electrician, but than moved to a farm east of Peterborough and actually tilled the soil for several years. He also started an electrical supply store.
Eventually he moved to Toronto where he found his true passion of construction and renovations.
His work was always excellent. He was available for problems all days. Many of his customers became his friends and still called him for advice years later.
It was during one of these renovations that he met Lorraine and their work never finished. Although they had different interests, their marriage was one of love and respect.
Jon had bilateral knee replacements after a car accident, that worked out well. But he developed back problems necessitating 3 operations and that finished his construction work and he was in constant pain for a decade.
Jon was a family man – took pride in his daughters accomplishments. He loved his dogs, although Lorraine had to walk them the last few years.
As we all know, Jon was a big man, but his heart was even bigger.

You are now with the rest of your immediate family – may you rest in peace.

To Lorraine and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Jon’s passing. We have many fond memories of Jon. You guys were some of our favourite neighbours in Davisville Village. Jacob and Ben loved interacting with Jon over the fence and especially loved the water gun fights. Jon will be greatly missed. Sad to hear about Cleo as well. We’ll be thinking about you and your family.
Love Andrew, Christy, Jacob, Ben, Matty and Julia💕

Lorraine & Family

Jon will be greatly missed. Jon’s heart chuckles a twinkle in his eye cracking jokes, his bountiful dinners & brunches and our long chats on the deck. Jon’s generosity is legend as is his love for his family. Jon loved his girls, his grandson Albert and the lovely Lorraine, Cleo and Bella. May he Rest In Peace and soar with the angels oh so high up in the sky.
