Obituary of John "Wayne" Stevenson
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John “Wayne” Stevenson at the age of 92 on Sunday, January 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the compassionate care of the staff at St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke in Hamilton, Ontario. His family is deeply grateful for the kindness, patience, and dignity shown to him in his final days. Wayne has now been reunited with his beloved wife, Anne (2021), and his cherished granddaughter, Megan (2013).Wayne was a devoted and proud father to John Stevenson (Barbara), David Stevenson, and Nancy Nesathurai (Rahim), and a loving grandfather to Jack (Lauren), Alyssa (Jesse), Donovan (Callie), Anne (Gerardo), Allan (Elly), and Claire. He was also a dear brother to his sister, Lynn Brown (Jim), and a steady presence in the lives of extended family, friends, and neighbours.
Wayne will be remembered as a man who loved deeply and lived life fully. He found joy in simple pleasures and shared them generously with others. An avid gardener, Wayne took pride in his garden and delighted in giving away the fruits of his labour, especially his famous beefsteak tomatoes, to neighbours, family, and friends. His hobbies reflected his curiosity and adventurous spirit; he enjoyed photography, scuba diving, and spending time outdoors fishing, boating, walking the dog, or quietly relaxing at the cottage.
Known for his strong will, solid work ethic, and remarkable resourcefulness, Wayne built the family home with his own hands and lived there for more than 60 years, a lasting symbol of his dedication and care. He believed in showing up, working hard, and doing what needed to be done to provide for those he loved. Above all, Wayne was someone his family could always depend on: steady, capable, and deeply caring in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, friend, and neighbour.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations in Wayne's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Society. Wayne will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him. His memory lives on in the stories shared and the lives he has touched.
