Obituary of John Edward Tollar
It is with extremely heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Edward Tollar on Friday, April 15, 2022 at The Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 67. He leaves behind his sisters Isobel Shelton, Margaret Jones and Kathy Campisano, his many nieces and nephews and his long time friend Leslie Smith.John enjoyed many years of employment at The Maid of the Mist. He was a maintenance man and doubled as a security guard. He was a very tall man and could look very intimidating, but he was a giant teddy bear. He loved to play cribbage and was a member of the Hanks Own Cribbage League for many years. He had also won numerous trophies for his excellent skill in playing darts at one of the many locations, the Chippawa House. John loved people and loved to joke. He was a social butterfly with the kindest heart. You could find John, everyday, driving his scooter to the Tim Hortons on MacLeod Road in Niagara Falls to get his large four by four and well toasted bacon biscuit. He was always up for a coffee and a chat. He will be terribly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905 354 2133) A Celebration of John's Life will be held at a date in the near future. Please bring a memory to share! If desired, donations in John's memory can be made to The Walker Family Cancer Centre and would be appreciated by his family.

I worked with John for many years at the Maid. Such a kind and caring soul, the definition of a Gentle Giant. He will be sadly missed. Sending my most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

We all enjoyed slow-pitch and most of the outfielders new what was coming. I enjoyed watching John with his trade mark swing. I don’t think he ever struck out. John could hit that ball out of the park time and time again.
Sometime after the game or a hard days work we got together playing Cribbage Eric, Lil, Frank and John with the Two-Angels.
We remember being greeted by John at Honey’s pizza n’ wings.
Coffee at Country Style, Tim Horton and a favourite Peanut-butter and jam sandwich stack 5 high to watch the Blue Jays and Hockey.
John volunteered at events too many to list.
John loved fishing at the Whirlpool and at Pebble Beach! He had a few other fishing spots to mention? However, that, I am sworn to secrecy.
Thank you John for your friendship, love and security that you gave to so many.
As a team player in slow-pitch and Darts 180- D-19 & Game!
Sadly we miss John.

Remember John well. Us girls would pull all-nighters at the beach, John would stay out to make sure we were okay. Hung out with all of us at the bridge for a no. Of years. My condolences to john s family and friends.
He was always known to our family as Big John. In years passed he helped out at the Thrifty Car rental office for Cliff and we could always call on him for help of any kind. We were sorry to hear of his passing. Condolences to his family.
