Obituary of John Roy Staite

Staite, John Roy
05-06-1942 Worcester, UK
15-05-2020 Niagara Falls, ON

John left this world peacefully at age 77 after an 8 month battle with Mesothelioma.

John and Lesley married in 1967 and immigrated with their children to Canada in 1976. Over his years living in England, Toronto, Rigaud, Que, and Niagara Falls, John never met a stranger and was always the neighborhood handyman and social butterfly.

John worked as a milkman, contractor and long-time TTC driver. He was an avid gardener and carpenter. He loved cruising with his family to new places, visiting (donating to) the local casino and supporting Tim Hortons as often as possible. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and each had a special place in his heart. He and Delaney enjoyed Blue Jay games, Parker would sit on his lap and tell him his most recent adventures, Jaemes got lots of sleepovers (and slot machine time) with him and Jake shared his love of woodworking.

He will be remembered by all who knew him as kind, generous, always smiling, and willing to help. He was an Englishman at heart appreciating his roses, a good cup of tea - and a few chocolate chip cookies. He is survived by his wife Lesley, his children Neil (Bev) and Daisy (Mike) and his four grandchildren. In keeping with his kind and generous spirit we ask you perform random acts of kindness to celebrate his life. If you would like to make a donation in his name, please do so to the Mark Preece Family House in Hamilton ON. Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be left on John’s tribute page at EssentialsNiagara.com

I’m so sorry to hear about John’s passing. I can remember him alway helping my elderly parents, Millie and Art with projects around their home in Agincourt, Ontario. A truly kind and generous man.

Having just planted one of these Dianthus in each of our gardens today in memory of John, we just wanted to share these words…

Not, how did they die, but how did they live?
Not, what did they gain, but what did they give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a person as a person, regardless of birth.
Not, what was their church, or what was their creed?
But had they befriended those really in need?
Were they ever ready, with a word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not, what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when they passed away?

RIP dearest brother and Uncle,
Trevor, Jean, Tracey & Charlotte xxx

We are grateful for the many laughs and stories we were able to share with John. He was always such a chipper and positive man who always welcomed us to join him in the pleasure of donating to the local casino. Taken too soon, our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

With love,
Paul and Larissa

John was one of a kind and the sort of person who would give
you the shirt off his back. He was always willing to help someone who needed it. A great loss to everyone, gone but
will never be forgotten. Very proud to say he’s my brother.
RIP John, love you.
