Obituary of John Richard Leishman

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, passed away at the Welland Hospital, on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the age of 87. John's life journey was a reflection of his unwavering commitment to those he held dear. His devotion to his beloved wife, Margaret (nee Siba), for over 66 years, is a testament to the enduring love they shared. John's role as a dad will be forever remembered by his children: Rocky, Scott (Lynn), Steve (Sally), and Pam (Greg). His guidance shaped their lives, leaving a special mark on their characters, especially with his grandchildren Eric, Ben (Taylor), Sarah (Josh), Tabi (Andrew), and Abi (Kevin). John extended his love to the next generation, and he enjoyed each moment of their presence. He was a loving brother to Clint (Ann) and a cherished brother-in-law to John and Lynda. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Dorothy (nee Chambers), as well as his sisters Sandy and Shirley, and his brother Bill.

Professionally, John's dedication shone as he worked as a crane operator for Stelco. His remarkable work ethic and promptness in getting tasks done were qualities that garnered admiration and respect from colleagues, family and friends alike. Away from work, John found solace and happiness on his farm, a place he called home. The vines he nurtured yielded grapes that became the source of wonderful moments he enjoyed from the wine they produced. However, he was always happiest being surrounded by his family relishing in their company and creating memories together.

In accordance with John's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held to honour his memory.
