Obituary of John "Johnny" Pigden

It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of John, on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the age of 61. He will be forever remembered by his beloved mother Pearl (Warren) Stainton. A brother who had the best sense of humour; he was loved by William (Donna) Pigden and Tracy (Grant) Blair. Uncle “John John” would lend an ear and was proud of his nieces Morgan, Alyssa and Rachel, and nephew Bill Jr. His presence will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and a whole bunch of friends, especially by his roommate Tyler. He was predeceased by his brother Bob (2023) and by his father William Pigden (2017).

John's life was vibrant and woven with compassion and joy from the many connections he made. As a devoted family member and a sounding board for his loved ones, he always created a strong sense of togetherness. His volunteer work at Positive Living was proof of his commitment to helping those struggling, while books recently published: Unbroken, Relentless and Free and The History We Made, Bringing Our Stories Home, reflected on his journey and passion for sharing his story. Known for his humour and endearing nicknames, John was respectful and well-mannered. He was always well informed by CNN, and you could count on him to deliver a news update by calling or sending a text message. With a love for dancing, he truly was the life of the party, bringing warmth to everyone around him. John will forever be remembered.

In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A graveside ceremony will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 4501 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 2pm . A Celebration of John’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to Positive Living Niagara or Project Share. Online condolences may be shared on John’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

We celebrated your life this past weekend in the Falls Johnny. Your big brother MC’d while Tracy and Lisa put together a slide show of pictures chronicling your very colourful life! Alyssa, Will, Rachel & Tyler’s sister Michele attended via zoom. All the aunts, uncle Terry and extended family were there to celebrate you. Tracy read a beautiful story of memories you shared together at Christmas and Thanksgivings. Alyssa shared a poem she wrote for you. Rachel spoke of you as the glue that bonded us all. Michele, Tyler’s sister also spoke of your enduring love for Tyler. Billy,, Kait and your nephews came from Winnipeg. Tinea and Brekkyn came and both spoke lovely messages of your kindness and love. We all miss you so very deeply. We are comforted to know that you were welcomed to the after life by your dad and brother Bob. We also spoke of Tyler as you now know he was unable to sustain his own life after your passing. We know you and Tyler will continue to entertain all those in the after life with your funny stories and silly jokes and of course with a rockus game of dice. The family played our own game of dice after the event in your honour! Billy won! Miss you dear brother. Your suffering done, may you rest in peace.

To all who knew loved you this is the worst time. I myself have dealt with so much loss in my lifetime my heart sometime feels numb, but more so on the day I got the call that you had passed. I know that you were not feeling well. I cherish each of the memories I have of us and there are so many. Treasured in my heart is the good laughs that we shared and the Love. I will never forget your love. One of the best: someone called from the Ricki Lake show to see if I would like to reconnect with you and I said sure I would and YOU said hi its me!!. My life will not be the same Johnny my prayers and condolences go out to all of you family and all your other friends. Our RBH family is shrinking and that pains me in a way no one could understand except for them. We will always Love you.! Love to Mama Pearl and Warren. Tracey and Family and William and Family.

To Johnny and his loving family:
I cannot believe you’re gone. My heart broke into a thousand pieces at the news of your sudden passing.
I thought we had more time.
I’m blessed at all the memories we made.
From high school, to the Red Brick House, to reconnecting as adults.
I will always remember you.
I will always be your RBH family.
I will always love you.
My deepest condolences to John’s family and everyone who loved him.
He was easy to love. ❤️
