Obituary of John "Jack" Halbert

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jack on April 20, 2023, at the age of 86. He was married to the love of his life, Eileen (nee Roberts) for 45 years. Jack is survived by his two sons, Dave and Steve, as well as his stepsons Al (Christine) Antonio and Thom (Kathy) Antonio. A proud grandfather to Jacob (Amanda), Kelly (Matija), Isabella, Audrey, and Adrean (Nicole), and a great grandfather to Isla, Zara, and Matija Jr. Jack was the youngest son of Grace and George and loving brother of Celia, Margaret, and William. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Jack began his career in the shipyards of Scotland before emigrating to Canada. He worked for many years in the engineering department at Provincial Crane in Niagara Falls, then moved to Teledyne in Thornbury, and retired from General Motors in St. Catharines as a Plant Engineer. He was respected by his colleagues for his dedication and expertise. Jack was a dedicated volunteer, having coached young athletes with the Optimist Track and Field Club and soccer players in Niagara Falls. He had many hobbies but had a passion for woodworking and gardening. Jack was also a member and instructor for the Power and Sail Squadrons in Collingwood and St. Catharines, where he shared his love of the water with others.

The family would like to thank the staff at Garden City Manor for their care and compassion. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Jack's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society. May Jack rest in peace, and may his memory live on through his loved ones and the impact he made in his community.
