In Loving Memory of
Joanne Marilyn Woodward
1934-2024
Obituary of Joanne Marilyn Woodward
The world’s spunkiest woman with a heart of gold is now at rest, as she peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024. If you knew Joanne, you knew she was a young 90 years old who loved to dance and make everyone laugh. She was the cherished mother of the late Michele (Martin), the late Mike (Julie), Paul (Charlene), and Derek (Kelly). Adored Nan of Sara, Mackenzie (Nikki), Ryan (Sarah), Carling (Mike), Tara, step-grandchildren Allison, Jessica. She was a proud great-grandmother of Sam, Hannah, Aubrey, and Lauren. Joanne was the dear sister of Dale (Vivian). She has now been reunited with her beloved husband, Robert Leonard Woodward (1992), and with her fur babies that she had throughout her lifetime, especially Duffy.Joanne met the true love of her life, Robert, in primary school. They lived the military life on the base while Robert worked in the navy. Base life was fun for them and afforded the experience of travelling across Canada, which they thoroughly enjoyed, making friends from coast to coast. Joanne loved gardening and had a spectacular knack for it; if you visited her home, she was likely to be found nurturing her plants and flowers.
She was loads of fun with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always finding ways to make them laugh and feel loved. An avid golfer in her younger years, Joanne enjoyed the game and the time it allowed her to spend outdoors. Her vibrant spirit and pure joy for life were infectious, and she never missed an opportunity to dance and create memorable moments.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing station on the second floor at the Niagara Long Term Care Residence, for their excellent attention and support that they gave to our mom.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A graveside ceremony for her immediate family will be held at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, 431 Queenston Street, St. Catharines, on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 12pm in the Veterans Section, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Robert. Joanne loved all animals, especially horses and dogs. To honour her passion for animals, memorial donations to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara would be greatly appreciated.
