Obituary of Joanne Maxine Baker (née Day)

With utter sadness we announce that on Thursday, June 27, 2024 Joanne Maxine Baker (née Day) passed away peacefully at Douglas Memorial Hospital at the age of 77. She has been reunited with her parents Max and Joan (née Murell), her brother Rolly and grandson Micheal. She was a loving mother to Max and Richard, cherished gramma to Wesley and dear aunt to Doddie (Randy). She will be terribly missed by her fur baby Peanut as well as many close friends and extended family.

Joanne was the proud owner of many businesses throughout the Niagara Region, her latest was Maxine's Bait in Fort Erie for the past 25 years, which became a family business when she handed it down to her son. She worked at a factory in Fort Erie for 20 years previously. You could often find her playing darts at the Legion in Fort Erie as a pass time and she enjoyed the competition.

She had a heart of gold and a very giving nature. She was always there to help support whenever she was needed. Her caring and generous nature will live on in the hearts who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland. An interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Erie, on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at noon where she will be laid to rest with her grandson, Michael Coulthurst.

I want to tell you how sorry I am for your losses, and I am sorry I couldn’t be there for you. Just the other day I was remembering the time Jo wanted to advertise she did snow removal. Remember that, we laughed so hard when she told them she did snow jobs. I loved your mom’s sense of humor. Loved playing darts with her. Rest in peace Joanne.

My sincere condolences to you Max and your family. Although I did not know your mother she sounds like a lovely woman. I knew Michael and thought the world of him.

Your mom was such a beautiful woman. I enjoyed the fun times I had with her at the Scuttlebutt. I am so sorry for your loss Max. You and your mom were so close. My heart goes out to you.
