Obituary of James "Jim" Carl Shanessy
Shanessy, Jim CarlApril 2, 1951 – May 22, 2020
Jim passed away as dignified as he lived every day, leaving the loves of his life, his wife of 47 years Jan, son Bronson (Marietta), daughter Carrie (Dan), and loving granddaughter Lara. Predeceased by his parents Carl and Violet Shanessy.
Jim worked at Welland County General Hospital (NHS) for 35 years and was loved and respected by many coworkers and the patients he helped care for. He was affectionately known as “The Cast Man”. Jim was also a proud lifelong member of the Welland Lions Club. He deeply enjoyed the charitable work his club accomplished in the community, his favourite being the guide dog program and Lions Camp Dorset (Kidney Dialysis Camp).
Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements, and cremation has taken place. One thing Jim was known for was his quiet kindness over the years, so please be kind and love one another. If you wish to make a donation in Jim’s memory, our family would greatly appreciate a donation to the Lions Camp Dorset (P.O. Box 306, 1087 Camp Dorset Road. Dorset, ON P0A 1E0) or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made on Jim’s tribute page at EssentialsNiagara.com.

My deepest condolences for your loss Jan, Bronson,Carrie and family. On first hearing of Jims passing, I cried because I remembered our trip to Nashville and Blue Jay games. Jim was a kind and generous man and a good drummer in the band called Chuck Kelford and the Western Rayders. we all had a good time when we were young. BOy, time flies but Jim was still too young to go. I guess the good Lord meant it to be.

Dear Jan and family,
Jim was more than “the cast man” he was the gentle ruler of the ortho dept. He took the time to teach us nurses proper assessment of injuries and he would quietly help us with our work without us asking. He was a real pleasure to know and work with. So sorry to hear of his passing.
As a close family you all have lost much,
a husband, father and grandfather. Jim’s departure was too soon. Although we had not been close as family there are many

I first met Jim when he was an Orderly on 3W at the WHS. He was so professional and kind to his patients. He was WHS first Orthopedic Tech and pioneered the position. He was so respected for being “The Cast man”. There was such a great turnout for his retirement party-great memory. I will always remember with fondness my nursing career working with him in the ER. Please accept my condolences.
Sincere condolences from the Cyopick family. We will cherish the memories from your Temple Club Mash, baseball days.
