Obituary of Jim "Popeye" Delpippo

Jim “Popeye” Delpippo peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 84. He will be missed by his wife, Cathie, of 63 years and children Jimmy and partner Michelle, Toni (Maureen) and Denise (Jeff). Loving “Popeye” to his grandchildren Sharon (Stewart), Natasha, Trevor, Michelle, Johanna, Michael, and great grandpa to Josh, Cai, Isla, mother to Sharon and Natasha, Janette, and many extended family members in Perth, Scotland, Canada and the United States.

Jim was born in Perth, Scotland and immigrated to Canada with the goal of wanting to provide a wonderful life for his family. He had a wandering soul and loved travelling; because of this, he took many trips and holidays with Cathie. Jim loved a good party with great music and dancing, not to mention that he enjoyed his Famous Grouse Scotch. He looked forward to family gatherings and loved spending time with his grandkids. Jim was a big Celtic and St. Johnstone soccer fan, and in his spare time he enjoyed the horse races at the Fort Erie and Woodbine tracks. At the end of the day, he and Cathie would settle in for the night and watch an episode of Coronation Street.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff working in Palliative Care at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, for their assistance and compassionate care. Essentials Cremation & Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. As per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Popeye’s life will be held on Sunday, March 8 at Betty’s Restaurant (8921 Sodom Rd, Niagara Falls) from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be shared to Jim’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

Jim “Popeye” will be very much missed by his family and everyone who knew him –
he loved them and they loved him.

A true gentleman in every sense of the word. I cherish the stories and moments we shared over a pint and a cheeky nip. You will be missed dearly, but your memory and stories will live on. Rest peacefully Popeye.

Love, Trev and Sam xo

Dad,
You were a true gentleman.
Always there to talk & offer support when asked.
You loved having family around & family loved your company. You were a man of great character & a character of a man. You liked parties & dancing & a wee nip of whiskey.
You were known as James , Big Jim, Jimmy & Popeye but my favourite was Dad
God Bless & RIP
