Obituary of Jill Whalen
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jill, who died peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Douglas Memorial Hospital, at the age of 67 years. Born in the city of Toronto, on September 14, 1956, Jill lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Wayde; her son Jason and his wife Cheryl, along with their sons Maddox and Keaton; her daughter Marie and her husband Donovan, and their daughter Teagen. Jill is also survived by her sisters Jacqui, Judy, and Janet, and her brothers John, Jay, and Jeff. She was predeceased by her brother Jim.Jill had a deep love for the great outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing, boating, walking, snowmobiling, quadding, RVing, and gathering around campfires. She was a passionate sports fan, with the Toronto Maple Leafs being her absolute favourite team, followed closely by the Toronto Blue Jays and the Buffalo Bills.
Her family was her pride and joy. Jill never missed a chance to take Jason and Marie to their sporting events, cheering them on with enthusiasm, love and guidance. Her friends and family knew they could always count on her; she was known for her generosity, often giving the shirt off her own back to help others. Jill's sarcasm, humor, and amazing smile lit up every room she entered. She was straightforward, always telling it like it was without sugarcoating.
In her younger years, Jill enjoyed playing hockey, lacrosse, and baseball. Later in life, she found joy in playing cards and doing puzzles. Her career included time at Chrysler, Superior Glove, and Beach Bites, and she was proud to volunteer at the Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
In accordance with Jill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to The Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 71 (Fort Erie) and can be made at www.legion.ca.
