Obituary of Jerry Butterworth

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Jerry Butterworth on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

Affectionately known as "Grandpa Up North", Jerry will be forever cherished by Brad Nelson (Leanne Clarkson) and Katey and Kathie Briggs. He was blessed with a close-knit community of friends and will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends in Northern Ontario.

Born in British Columbia, Jerry moved to Ontario in his early years, where he built a life marked by kindness, independence and a deep appreciation for simple joys. A lover of country living, he found happiness in farming, caring for animals and spending time with loved ones. Jerry was an enthusiastic Blue Jays fan, a skilled card player and always enjoyed a visit to the casino. He had a passion for western films, especially those starring John Wayne, and was known for his beautiful singing voice that brought life to country and western tunes.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate PSWs, nurses, doctors and staff of Ontario Health at Home, ParaMed, CBI, Rapelje Lodge and the St. Catharines and Welland hospitals, for their exceptional care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services, Welland. Cremation will take place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Jerry’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Jerry’s warmth, humour and love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
