Obituary of James Oren Richber
It is with deep sadness and love that we share the passing of James Richber, who left us peacefully on November 13, 2025.Born in Kitchener-Waterloo on January 13, 1946, James lived a life full of laughter, energy, and devotion to those he loved. Fittingly, the number 13 was always his favorite, he believed it was lucky, and it truly was a part of his beautiful story.
James was the cherished husband of Gerry Richber for nearly 53 beautiful years. Married on December 2, 1972, in Toronto, Ontario, James and Gerry were inseparable; true soulmates who shared countless adventures, long walks on the beach, and a lifetime of joy together.
A proud father to his twin daughters, Melanie Garaffa and Melissa Richber, James’ greatest happiness was his family. He was a loving grandfather to five wonderful grandchildren, Sabrina, Lukas, Santino, Sarah and Julia, each of whom brought light to his life. His beloved dogs, Chico and Peppe, were always by his side, sharing in his warmth and affection.
James was a man of vibrant spirit and endless positivity. He had a gift for storytelling, dramatic, funny, and unforgettable, and could make everyone laugh until their cheeks hurt. His humor and charm made him the life of every gathering. He loved trips to the grocery store and when he was behind the grill and enjoyed a cold beer or a glass of wine while savoring the moment. His passion for barbecuing was matched only by his love for gardening and the outdoors. Whether building a fire for enjoyment, feeding birds and wildlife, or tending to his garden, James found beauty in life’s simple pleasures.
He had a zest for adventure, whether swimming in the ocean, strolling hand in hand with Gerry along sandy shores, or visiting Las Vegas and local casinos with dreams of hitting the jackpot. James enjoyed watching sports and kept a keen interest in politics and current events. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, and his laughter would echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
James Richber’s legacy is one of love, family, and joy. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his humor, his vibrant personality, his unwavering devotion to his loved ones, and the countless memories he created.
A private family memorial will be held to honor James Richber’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society, an organization close to James Richber’s heart.
Forever loved, forever remembered. James Richber’s warmth and humor will live on in every story told and every heart he touched.
