Obituary of James “Jim” Warriner

After a quiet and stoic three year journey with pancreatic cancer, Jim passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022. An experience he met with determination, courage and resilience.

Left not to mourn, but to lovingly remember his uniqueness and pragmatic nature is his partner of 39 years, Kathy Currie. Jim will be deeply missed by his younger siblings, Mark of Belle River, Karen of Welland, Sandra (Chuck Rutledge) of Port Colborne, Brock of Burlington, Paul (Amy Gagliardi) of Ottawa, Glenn (Kim Kormos-Warriner) of Welland and Andrea (Dave Lowel) of Beamsville. Jim’s memory will also be cherished by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who live across Ontario and as far away as New Zealand. Predeceased by his Parents Ola and John (Jack) Warriner, Step-mother Joanne Warriner, In-laws Mary and Jim Currie and Brother-in-law Neil Currie. Fondly remembered by the extended Currie family. Forever missed by Clyde, Jim’s constant companion and protector.

Jim will be celebrated for his quick wit, indomitable spirit, and curiosity. He was well-read and enjoyed intelligent conversation, lively banter and debate, freely offering you his firm opinions on any topic, especially when it came to politics or current events. His lively input will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Jim was an avid sports fan and took pleasure in watching football, baseball and basketball. He enjoyed playing high school football and later in life, slow pitch and golf. We are very grateful to Jim’s “adopted older brothers”, Rich Baker and Kent Taylor and to our dearest friends and family for the love and quality you added to Jim’s life. Your love and support kept us strong.

We wish to also thank Dr Yelamenchili and the nurses and medical staff at the Walker Cancer Centre and Saint Elizabeth for their expertise and care. A special thank you to Dr Wayne Gruber for his persistence. Your care and compassion with respect for Jim’s dignity provided us with much peace. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private gathering will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to mark Jim’s memory can do so by making a donation to the Walker Family Cancer Centre or to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

Dear Kathy & Karen,
Please accept our deepest sympathy for Jim’s passing. Although we didn’t know Jim well, Alec did enjoy playing golf with Jim some years ago and we, like many people, were saddened to hear about his pancreatic cancer. We obtained periodic updates from Karen who we saw frequently while walking the dog. We were impressed that, for a number of years, he appeared to be successfully fighting this deadly disease.
May you continue to relish fond memories of Jim and may he rest in peace.

Beautiful tribute to a life well lived. He will leave a huge void in the family, being the eldest of 8 children. Hope the family and friends can take comfort that they were able to take part in his journey. Karen, Kathy and Clyde , you were the best dedicated guardian angels…Rest in perfect peace Jimmy, the years have passed but you stayed the same unique witty likeable guy that you were back in the 60s and 70s. Our sincere condolences Bev Digout (nee Warriner) & family
