Obituary of James "Jim" Stewart

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Stewart, who passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at Millennium Trail Manor in Niagara Falls, ON.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Lydia Parowinchak, who will miss him dearly.

He will be remembered by his siblings, Mary Longley, Theresa Smuisak, and Frank (Linda) Stewart, as well as his nieces, Barb Wolkowski and Cori Thompson. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Margaret Stewart, and his siblings, Doug, Gary, and Anne Thompson.

He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Jim worked with Niagara Parks, where he met the love of his life, Lydia, who also worked there. From that moment on, they shared their lives together. They travelled up north often and created countless cherished memories.

Jim was a man of the outdoors, someone who felt most at peace in nature, especially when watching birds. His love for birds grew into one of his greatest passions. He would even travel to St. Thomas to watch the migrations. He also enjoyed watching hockey, and his favourite team was the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was “his team", and those who knew Jim knew he was always ready to watch the game. He also had a special liking for orchids, appreciating their delicate beauty.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Celebration of life information will be posted at a later date. Donations in Jim's memory can be made to Birds Canada or to the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Niagara Falls, ON.

Lydia,
I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing, he was a great friend and coworker. We shared many stories and laughs together over the years, and he was a great partner to have in the snow plows, Sorry I didn’t get to see him more during retirement.

Lydia
I think you know how much I have appreciated and loved the bonds that the three
of us formed over the years since Jim first appeared in our lives. The times we had having heated discussions about life, politics and his love of orchids, birds photography and the wilds of the far North of Ontario. To think that we first developed a relationship over cups of coffee at a restaurant on Lundy’s Lane where Jim and I became friends only to become part of a family not too long after.
Anyway, Lydia we share your loss and want you to know that we are here for you whenever you feel like you need someone to lean on.

Lydia, We are so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. We will miss his wise words and encouragement when it comes to growing things. He would be proud to see the trees he gave us as seedlings have now turned into a wonderful Carolinian forest. Our property is more beautiful because of him. We have red mulberry, cucumber trees, red bud, tulip trees, pawpaw, Siberian apple, and many more. I have managed to keep 14 orchids alive due to his thoughtful words and advise. Always within our hearts, love Jo-Anne and Tony

We were deeply saddened to learn of Jim’s passing. As his neighbor for 25 years, I will truly miss his kind presence and his wonderful sense of humor.
I will always remember his great passion for gardening, bird watching, and his beautiful orchids. He had a gift for bringing nature to life and sharing those funny stories that made every encounter a bright spot in the day.
Jim was a great guy who loved Lydia.
A good friend.
