Obituary of Jacobus Breeve

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jacobus Breeve, surrounded by his loving family, on December 14, 2024, at the age of 90. Jacobus was predeceased by his beloved wife, Therese (1999), his cherished daughter, Anne Pagano (2018), and his brothers, Jacoba, Hendrik, and Theodorus. He was a loving and devoted father to Jacqueline (Ken) Andonian and Jake Breeve and father-in-law to Domenic Pagano. Proud grandfather of George, Tina, Rachelle, and Michael (Carrie), and great-grandfather to Gage, Domenic, and Delilah. He will also be fondly remembered by his companion Suzanne Roberts, and by many nieces and nephews.

Jacobus was born in 1934 in Rotterdam, Holland. As a young man he immigrated to Canada, where he started his family and built a wonderful life. He dedicated 42 years to his career with Newman Brothers Limited. He was also a longtime member of the Carpenters Union Local 18. Jacobus had a passion for travel and was fortunate to explore many parts of the world throughout his life, with trips back to his beloved Holland holding a special place in his heart. He will be remembered as a hard worker, and a kind and loving father.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family celebration will be held. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Niagara.

Our heartfelt condolences to Jacqueline, Jake and the grandchildren. We will remember Koos (Jacobus) with great fondness. While he was with Beppie (Susanna) these past twenty-odd years he became a grandfather to our children and visited us, with her, many times in their home country of the Netherlands and while travelling elsewhere in Europe. He always enjoyed sharing stories about his youth in Rotterdam or his grandchildren in Canada and he often liked to reminisce about his experiences as a construction supervisor. We will remember him enjoying Dutch music, catching up on his team Feyenoord or watching the Dutch national team while having a Heineken or eating his favourite tampouce pastry. He was a very generous man who was always happy to help others and liked to keep busy all through his retirement. He will be missed and fondly remembered!

Our condolences to Jackie, Jake, and the Pagano family.
We remember ‘uncle’ Jake fondly as a wonderful friend to our family when we were growing up. He taught my sister and I how to drive,, and my brothers a few carpentry skills. He was always so much fun when our families got together for vacations. He had a big personality and a big heart.
He will always be remembered.

I/we pledge to make a memorial donation.
