In Loving Memory of

Obituary of Jacob William Barrie
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jacob (Jake) Barrie on February 21, 2026, at the age of 72.Born on February 6, 1954, in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Jake carried the strength, humour, and deep-rooted pride of his Cape Breton upbringing throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of Kim Barrie, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.
Jake was a devoted father to his daughters, Jenna Plouffe (Chris) and Katie Barrie (Mike), and his greatest joy in life was being “Poppa” to his cherished granddaughter, Millie. She was his pride and light, and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with her.
Jake spent many years sailing with Canadian Steamship Lines, a career that reflected both his strong work ethic and his love of the water. His time sailing created lifelong friendships and countless stories that he loved to tell.
Those that knew Jake, knew his smile. And if he wasn’t smiling, he was likely talking about the Toronto Blue Jays or the Toronto Maple Leafs. He loved catching games and chatting about them with family and friends, always holding onto hope for the season ahead. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family; simple moments filled with laughter and the closeness that meant everything to him.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Barrie and Hannah Barrie; mother, and father-in-law, Norma and Rolland Barker; his son Gregory; and his siblings Howard, Elaine, Doreen, Sandra, Blair, Caroline, and Valerie. He leaves behind his loving siblings June, Norma, Rhoda, Dale, and Isabelle, along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who will fondly remember his warmth, humour, and steady presence. Jake will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unwavering loyalty, and the pride he took in those he loved. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled and the memories shared by all who knew him.
Forever loved and always remembered.
