In Loving Memory of
Hannah Mavis Gillum Pickering
1993 ~ 2025
Obituary of Hannah Mavis Gillum Pickering
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hannah Mavis Gillum Pickering announces her sudden passing on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 32.Hannah was the beloved daughter of Gary and Kerrie Pickering, and the loving sister of Reuben Pickering. She was the cherished granddaughter of Jenny and the late Brian Gillum, the late Mavis and Melville Pickering, and Margaret Walter. She will be dearly remembered by her aunts and uncles: Andrew Pickering, April O’Dempsey and Gail Beattie, Gaynor and Neville Baker, Daryl and Kaye Gillum, Julie and Brendon Rooney, and by her many cousins who held a special place in her life.
Hannah touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a large circle of friends and the gift of making new friends with ease. Kind-hearted and selfless, she always put the needs of others before her own. Known for her quick wit and sharp sense of humour, Hannah had a way of bringing laughter and light wherever she went.
Her love of animals was a defining part of who she was. She volunteered as a foster mom for dogs and turned her passion into her business, Pawsatively Perfect, a dog-sitting service that was more joy than work. She often combined her creativity with her love of animals, involving the dogs she cared for in art projects such as paw-print and nose-print artwork, unique keepsakes their families continue to treasure.
Artistic and patient, Hannah found joy in many creative outlets, from cross-stitch to ink painting. Her artistic spirit and compassionate heart were matched by her intelligence; she held a degree in psychology and approached life with curiosity, insight, and care.
Hannah’s family invites those who knew her to share their stories and memories in the online condolences, bringing comfort through the many ways she enriched the lives of others.

Thinking of you and your family.
I admit I have been putting off writing this, every time I think about Hannah and about her being gone I just start crying.
I didn’t get to have a sister, but that is what I have regarded Hannah as since being teens. I always knew she was a message away and would give the best advice or be a shoulder to lean on. I still measure every boy against the advice she gave ‘”if a dog doesn’t like and trust him then you shouldn’t either”‘.
So many people have mentioned how she was a bright spark in every room, but she was also brave, to face everything she got dealt in this world and still smile. I really can’t think of any so lovely but with the worst dam luck.
I got to spend my first white Christmas with Hannah, she introduced me to Poutine, she drove me in a blizzard to get coldstone ice cream, she took me tobogganing and we built gingerbread houses. Every time I have a berry tea, I think of her showing me Teavana at Welland Mall, New Zealand hadn’t been hit by the flavoured teas craze yet.
We often spoke of her moving to New Zealand and us living together, obviously with a couple pets. I will always wish we had been able to do that.
Knowing Gracie is with her, along with Lucy, Shelby and Crystal helps, she deserves to be loved and at peace after everything. I hope that can help us all by knowing she is with them
Dear Gary, Kerrie and family, I have just heard the sad news that your beautiful daughter has passed. Sending my deepest condolences and hope that you find some comfort in your memories of your beautiful girl.
I worked with Hannah, for I believe a year. Hannah was the human embodiment of a ray of sunshine. She was just so incredibly kind, outgoing, friendly, quick witted and unapologetically herself. The way she would operate in this world had me in awe, as it is who I always wished I could be. Hannah’s story was inspiring and also heartbreaking at times. Every time I learned something new about her, I was shocked at such an interesting life she has led.
Hannah was such an incredibly special person and it has been difficult wrapping our heads around her passing. I miss her getting excited when dogs would come through work and her singing classic rock to pass the time. We created a memorial spot in the staff room to honour her. We miss you Hannah, may you rest easy, and your memory will certainly live on through the many lives you have touched.
Hannah truly was a beautiful person. Lived life passionately. With a warm heart, and a unforgettable smile. She will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences. My thoughts and heart go out to the Pickering family.

A very special human gone too soon. I feel honored to have known you. It is very hard to understand the unfairness of this world, and how it can take away the most special and wonderful people way too soon in this life. I hope you are at peace. See you on the otherside. ❤️

I’ll always remember the time we spent together in the lab with Gracie — navigating our degrees, supporting one another through challenges, and sharing moments of laughter and friendship. Celebrating her graduation was a highlight, and I’m grateful to have been part of that milestone in her life.

My deepest condolences to the Pickering family. In our conversations, Hannah spoke so fondly of her parents and was fortunate to have the endless love and support of a wonderful family. Hannah will be missed dearly. Sending love to all.
Im lost for words – I never thought this would be something that would happen. Hannah was a bright soul, who was one of the most genuine people I have ever met. I remember the talks we had as teenagers, and when I lived across the country – she would always try to make time when I visited home from sushi nights, or just a cup of coffee.
Gary, Kerrie, and Rueben – I truly am sorry for your loss, and my thoughts are with you during this time.
I am so profoundly saddened to hear of Hannah’s passing and send our deepest love from the Hulley family. I always remember Hannah as the bright and energetic girl who kindly brought crafts to our home to entertain and play with our daughter – the “kid” who was 10 years her junior. Hannah was so loving and patient and Katharyn never forgot her. I am so profoundly saddened to know Hannah. that beautiful, loving spirit is no longer with us. I truly wish there were words.
Hanna was such a bright light—always smiling, kind, and full of warmth. I’ll never forget her unique style and the way she made people feel comfortable and cared for. I’m grateful for the times she helped me through my own hardships. Hannah will deeply missed
To Gary and Kerrie–Please accept my sincerest condolences on Hannah’s passing. I remember her very well and she was a sweet little girl. As a dad to two girls whom I worry about constantly, I can only feel empathy and a small portion of your grief.
We were deeply saddened to learn of Hannah’s passing. She was a caring and capable member of our team at Tim Hortons West Side Road. Hannah will be very much missed by her fellow team members and her customers alike. Rest gently Hannah.
From your friends at Tim Hortons and The Hay Family
I only got to know Hannah briefly. She made a great impression on everyone she met. A shining light.
She will be sadly missed by many
Hannah’s aura could make a flower smile. When she first came to Canada and came to my class we were instant best friends. I remember when she thought salt was falling from the sky on her first snow fall. So many good memories. Throughout the years when we had our own lives we still kept in touch. No words can describe how much she will be missed by myself, and everyone who ever knew her.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Hannah’s passing. I had the privilege of meeting Hannah through her wonderful parents, Gary and Kerrie, and through her inspiring work in psychology at Brock. Hannah was a bright and compassionate presence, who brought warmth, intelligence, and laughter where ever she went. Her loss is profound, and my thoughts are with her family and loved ones.
We were friends. There are no words that can express the feelings I have right now. You were an Angel to me and forever shall be 🙏 ✨️ 🙏 ♥️
Hannah, although we haven’t spent much time together over the years, I know from the limited time we have spent that you have such a beautiful, kind and caring soul. You will be massively missed. Sending lots and lots of aroha (love) from your cousins in New Zealand xx
I only knew Hannah for a year but she made a big impression. Her style, wit and intelligence were totally engaging. My condolences go out to her family and everyone who loved her.
I worked with Hannah at Tim Hortons and she was so awesome as a co-worker…always fun and gave the best hugs…I’ve only worked with her for six months but feel like I’ve known her forever…she was always kind and considerate and worked hard…we could laugh together and share together and my heart is broken over losing her….she was part of a great team that now has a hole in it because we lost such a beautiful person…my condolences to her family…miss you my friend❤️🐾
I met Hannah during a visit to her parent’s house. She was engaging, fun and vital. The thought of her passing in her prime leaves me very sad. And I can only imagine the grief that Kerrie, Gary and Rueben are expereincing. You are all in my thoughts and heart at this difficult time. I hope you find strength and hope from each other and your many many friends.
I had the privilege of knowing Hannah personally and professionally for several years. She was always a joy to be around. She will be deeply missed, but remembered with fondness, and always cherished. My deepest sympathy to her family
I trained Hannah at Tim Hortons and she became more then just a coworker, she was also a friend. She was such a light and joy to be around, she always brightened the mood even on stressful days. We already feel such a huge void since we’ve learned of her passing and we will never be able to fill that. The world lost a beautiful person and I send my deepest condolences to her family. ❤️
