Obituary of Gwendoline Joan Dorothy Thornton
Thornton, Gwendoline Joan (nee McNamara)Passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020 at River Road Retirement Residence at the age of 96. She is reunited with her husband, Frederick Thornton. Forever missed by her children Christel Tyson (David), Paul Thornton and Gwendoline Borg. Loving Granny to David Borg, Dean Borg, Kim Uguccionni, Clarisse Thornton, Craig Thornton and Neal Thornton. She was a great Granny to 9, and great-great Granny to 3, including Juno, her fur-grandbaby. Joan will be remembered by her lifelong friends Pat and Joe Craffigan.
Joan loved to travel, with her passion taking her to all corners of the world including: Hong Kong, Australia, Europe, Cuba, and Greece. When she could not travel far, she enjoyed walks around her neighbourhood. Joan took pride in getting ready in the morning by choosing matching clothing sets, accessorizing with jewellery, lipstick, and makeup to match. She loved playing euchre and bridge at the local community senior centres. Joan was a “community Mom” to all her children’s friends, always being involved and helping at their events. Joan was a strong and independent woman and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Aunt Joyce was a beautiful lady. She always made you feel like you mattered no matter how long it was since last time you saw her.
Sorry for your loss
It is very sad to learn about the death of Aunt Joan.
I remember spending time with Crystal while visiting in Toronto . Paul and Gwendolyn were older. The last time we visited was at a family gathering west of Kingston. It was memorable.
My dearest condolences.
To Paul, Gwen, Christel and Dave, Clarisse, Neal and Craig and other extended family. How sad it is when we lose someone wonderful in our life, such as your Mum/Grandmum. When I first met her, she was warm, kind and made me feel most welcome. She loved her family and friends and had a spunk for life, even in her advanced years. I believe that as a Mum, she was quite a role model and a bit ahead of her time. Sadly, although she was widowed early, it appears she was able to travel the world – with the same sense of adventure that she had in her youth, when she left the UK to become a war bride. Each of you are lucky to have her in your life, well into her 90’s with relatively good health. I have heard that her friends and those who looked after her also loved her. May we all hope to leave such wonderful legacy as your Mum. My heart will be with you tomorrow as you say goodbye to a fabulous lady.
I was very sad to learn about the passing of my great grandmother. She was a kind and loving woman and she will be greatly missed. Sending virtual hugs to the whole family xo
My deepest condolences to all my cousins and family in Aunt Joan and Uncle Fred’s family. I guess most whom I have never met.
Jim
(Aunt Margaret’s oldest son)

Eternal rest grant unto them Oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
So very sorry for your loss.
