Obituary of Grace Murphy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and Granny on Monday, October 3, 2022 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Bill (2017). Fun loving Mom to Grace, Agnes and Bill. Cherished Granny to Sheila and Jeff. Honorary Mother to Sharon Silenzi and Lorraine Barton. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and extended family members across the globe.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 1, 1930, she immigrated to Canada in 1958. Grace worked in many locations including, Imperial Optical, General Signals and Welland Hospital. A selfless and giving person, her home was always open for family, friends and cherished neighbours. Throughout the last year she was strong through her battle with Cancer and never let it bring her down. She will always be remembered dancing in her kitchen to ABBA.

A special thank you to the Nurses at ParaMed, especially Kim and Jocelyn for their exceptional care and compassion. In accordance with Grace’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905) 734-1031. As she had a love for animals, memorial donations may be made to Niagara SPCA – Welland Location.

My deepest condolences to your family. We lived close by your Mother and each time she stopped to pet our dog and have a chat. We moved several years ago but every time we would drive through the neighborhood I had wonderful memories of your Mother and her sweet smile.

My deepest condolences to Aggie and your families. My heart just broke today when I saw you and I’m so sorry for your loss. I met Grace one day about 8 years ago walking to my sisters. She was walking her little dog and I stopped to pet him. From that day she became a Mother to me since I had lost my mom many years ago. I will miss our talks and how you opened your heart to me. I love you and miss you so very much.

Grace, Bill, Agnes, Sheila and Jeff,
We are so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing.
The girls were fond of their “Auntie Grace” and so were we. I’ve known her for most of my life here in Welland. We’ve had fun celebrating some milestones together as well as sharing a cuppa tea now and then.
We will miss her infectious perkiness and her generous heart.
Sending love to you all.

Grace (or Aunt Grace as my sister and I knew her) was such an important person to us growing up. I carry loving memories of her visits, her delicious banana bread, her kindness, and genuine interest she took in others. I am so grateful that she was a part of our lives and that we were able to reconnect in recent years. My love and condolences to her family.

Grace was a beautiful lady inside and out. We had so many laughs when I visited before Covid. That lovely photo absolutely captures her essence! In her kitchen, that beautiful smile…..

Dear Auntie Grace I will miss you very much, so many great memories growing up in Fort Erie and in Welland. I am sincerely sorry for your family’s loss. All my best to Grace, Agnes and Billie and their extended families at this difficult time, I know they can look back at a wonderful mother and Granny you were to them. You always were very patient and kind and always a cup of tea and biscuit at the ready. God bless you and love always

We had such good memories together when you all came down to Edmeston. The many times your Mom came to stay with my Dad, your Mom’s brother, she will be very much missed. Uncle Alex is right she was blessed with a wonderful caring family and was in her in her own home .

We have lost a very special person. Her quick sense of humor & her lovely smile brightened the day for many ! Love the picture, cooking pot in hand & wearing her smile.

What can I say – Grace (aka: Mrs. Murphy) was part of my life since I was born. Hearing her call my name and say good morning or having our neighbourly chats, even long after I moved away from that neighbourhood were always a highlight in my days and visits home. She (and Bill) were so kind to my family and so wonderful to my sister and I growing up. Grace always made us feel like we were part of the family, and we knew that we were. She was an amazing woman and I’m a better person for having known her and having shared so much of my life with her in it. Sending all my love to the family. She was truly a gem in this world and she’ll be remembered fondly. xo

Grace was a special friend to me. Her humor and love for her family and friends is something I will cherish. She was a loving caring person especially to her animal friends. I will miss her.
