Obituary of Gordon Ronald MacDonald

We announce the peaceful passing of Gordon MacDonald on October 16, 2022 at Maple Park Lodge in Fort Erie at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy (née Campbell) in 2018 , they were married 65 years. He was the devoted father to Greg (Pam) and Laurie (Charles). He was the proud grandfather to Paul and Sandra (Andrew), as well as great grandpa to Emily who called him Big Poppa. Loving brother to Malcolm and Tom and uncle to Calum (Juli) and great uncle to their children, Mac and Jack. Gord will be missed by those who knew him.
Gord spent his working life in business but he had a talent for working with his hands and creative problem solving. He built several boats over his lifetime including a 24' sloop. He was also active in the construction of his last home. Gord spent many years sailing the boat he built on Lake Ontario and was a member of the St. Catharines Boat Club. Gord also enjoyed teaching various courses for the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. The family would like to thank Dr. Scher for his care of Dad in his final years.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905) 354-2133. A private family graveside service will be held in Gord's honour at a later date in Orillia. In lieu of flowers, please do something special with your family and think of Gord. My Ol’mate Gord!

It was such a blessing and privilege to have met Gord & Dorothy when we became neighbours. Gord’s incredible sense of humour and contagious laugh made for great company sitting on the front porch or beside the fireplace. I was always appreciative of his advice and guidance on many occasions.

Our sincere condolences to the family. I’m sure the story telling and countless memories will last forever.
With love, Rob & Barb
