Obituary of George Rennie
Peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020, George passed away at Garden City Manor, in St. Catharines, at the age of 78. George was married to his childhood sweetheart for over 55 years, Sally Rennie (nee Read). Loving Dad to Linda (Robert) Brown, Andrea Rennie, Adam Rennie (Stephanie Sackaney). Proud Grandpa to Robert (Jenni), Kevin, Stuart, and Laura. He was a dedicated grandpa to Kyle Mclean and great grandfather to Freya Autumn Brown. He is survived by sisters-in-law: Linda (Doug) Fagan, Bonnie (Bevan) Bonthron, brother-in-law Bruce Read and by his relatives in Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas Rennie (1985) and Margaret Rennie (1996) both from Scotland.
George worked in the crane industry most of his adult life. He was a devoted parishioner of First Baptist Church where he happily took on the role as a caretaker for some time. Once he retired, George also worked as a crossing guard, wanting to keep busy and ensure young children navigated safely to and from school. George also volunteered his time working at the Soup Kitchen, providing warm meals to those in need. Family and friends will cherish and remember him for his laughs, smiles, sense of humour, dancing to Elvis and for his love of fishing. Above everything, he will be forever loved and missed by his family, especially by his wife Sally, who was his partner and rock through his life. A special thank you to the staff at the Garden City Manor, Eventide Home and to the Alzheimer’s Society for their care, and also to the members of our church and friends for their prayers and great support.
In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). A memorial and celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara. We were so sorry to read of George’s passing. Sally and George were the picture of high school sweethearts. We have so many memories of NFCVI and the way George always made us laugh. Thinking of George’s family as they deal with his loss. Carolynne (Marsh) and Bob Canham
Please accept my sympathy, Sally. I have always remembered our chats at the First Baptist Church, you with a vacuum and myself on the organ bench. It was then I met George, your partner in life.
The happy memories returned when we reconnected with you both at the Soup Kitchen. George was a board member, I recall. He was a contributor.
With my caring, Judy.
Our deepest condolences on this loss to the Rennie family. My wife Diana and I met George (through Adam) only a few times but he always gave us a reason to smile and laugh. Our thoughts are with you all in this difficult time.
