Obituary of Gary Gordon St. Angelo

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Gary Gordon St. Angelo, peacefully on the morning of Friday June 24th, 2022.

Loving husband and best friend of Peggy (nee Whyte) for 58 incredible years. Gary was the proud father of Mark (Kim) and Sean. Adoring Papa to Sarena, Sebastian, and Emily. Also survived by his brother Samuel (Christine). Predeceased by his parents, Samuel (Babe) and Julia; and his brother Ron.

To those that knew him, Gary was larger than life. Regardless of his various health challenges, unknown to most, Gary had remarkable determination and a zest for life. Genuinely caring for others, he believed life was not about you, but about the impact you have on those around you.

Those that had an opportunity to work with him throughout his career at Kmart Canada, colleagues came to know him as tough, fair and kind. He loved to coach and mentor and truly enjoyed watching people become better at everything they do. He was inspirational to everyone who encountered him.

Gary was the calm, cool, collected strength every family needs. He was also our pizza and burger maker, a boater, golfer and serious practical joker. Gary and Peggy shared many adventures during their life together; from boating & vacationing in Port Severn, travels to Hawaii, and their Bed & Breakfast in Tumbler Ridge, BC.

Our family gives thanks to the staff at Niagara Falls General Hospital and home care providers for compassionate, exemplary care. A special thank you to Lisa Herkimer for the care and friendship provided to Gary during his years in medical daycare. Gary lived and loved with all his heart and will be missed by all.

Cremation has taken place. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Palliative Care Unit, Niagara Falls General Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services, Niagara Falls.

Gary was my wife, Michele’s cousin. (So I guess I was a cousin in Law?). I always felt he was a class act, and we enjoyed every minute when we visited. I pulled out a pic from 1991 of Peggy Andrea Lorraine and Gary. Hey, Gary. Maybe we can go boating some time in the hereafter?

I worked with Gary for over 25 years and he was a great leader … My greatest memory is when he called me in St.John’s, Newfoundland, and promoted me to District Manager of British Columbia… at the time he told me “O’Neill, this is the closest I get you to Siberia, so enjoy” that was his humor at work … a great friend and leader … my heartfelt prayers and thoughts to all the family …

So sorry to hear about Gary’s passing. Gary’s demeanour was truly one of calmness, gentleness and strength. His love and pride of family radiated from him. T doesn’t seem so long ago we were all kids, carefree and enjoying life to the ultimate. Gary was part of those memories. He will be missed – God bless Peggy and his loving family.
