Obituary of Frederick Farrelly

Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on November 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Fred was a beloved husband and best friend to Josie for 64 wonderful years. He was the cherished father of Kathleen and David. Proud Grandad to Stacey, Stephanie, Brett, and Dylan, and a doting Great-Grandad to Cheyanne, Brooklynn, Titus, and Noa-layha. Fred will be dearly missed by his Daughter-in-law Sue as well as his loving extended family and friends.

Fred dedicated his career to his trade as a skilled and respected plumber and was a longtime member of Local 46.
His true passion in life was golf. Introduced to the game at age 12, he fell in love with the fairways and greens that became his second home. A proud longtime member of Whisky Run Golf Club in Port Colborne, Fred’s dedication to the game was unparalleled—marked by his remarkable achievement of five holes-in-one! In his younger years, Fred also coached minor hockey.

Fred was a tranquil man who found peace in the beauty of nature. Whether he was tending to his garden or lawn, birdwatching or feeding the birds, he enjoyed spending as much time outdoors as he could. Fred will be remembered as a loving and thoughtful man. He was a people person and always went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. He was truly loved by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kim Scher, the staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital, and Fred’s PSWs for their exceptional care and compassion.

In keeping with Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Josie, Kathy, David and Family. Fred was our next door neighbour on Merrydrew Crt. I use to see him every summer day smiling while loading up his golf clubs for a day on the course. He taught my brother James how to play, who still loves the game as much as Fred did,. In the winter months him and David would be loading up the hockey gear for a day at Vic Johnson’s arena or joining in for a game of ball hockey in the Court with all the neighborhood kids He was a quiet gentleman who kept his gardens beautiful and didn’t seem to bother (I think?) when all us neighbourhood kids would hike his fence to sneak into one of the first pools on “The Black Road” Fred was a good family man and a true gentleman. Rest in peace Fred, you will be missed🙏🏻❤️
