Obituary of Ernest 'Ernie' Frederick Cleave
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ernest “Ernie” Frederick Cleave announce his passing at Douglas Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 62.Ernie was the beloved husband and best friend of Jocelyn Cleave (née Desrochers). Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was a proud and loving father to Cassondra (Mathew), Kyle (Kaitlyn), Darquise (Cameron), Renee (Glenn), and Robert. Nothing brought him greater joy than being “Papa” to Sydney, Makenna, Abigayle, Megan, Marlee, Walker, and Georgia, who were the light of his life.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings William Cleave, Deborah (Bruno) Morin, Sandra Cleave, and Robert (Cheryl) Cleave. He is now reunited with his parents, Harold and Kathleen Cleave (née Krieger), and his sisters, Diane Anderson and Sharon Cleave.
Ernie shared a special bond with his dear friend and cuddle buddy, Laura, and his faithful dogs, Sarge and Pepper, who were never far from his side. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends and colleagues at Rich Products, where he was respected not only for his hard work, but for his kindness, guidance, and steady presence.
Ernie was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Miami Dolphins, cheering them on through every season. He found peace in the simple moments; evenings around a campfire, tending to his garden, being outdoors, and playing cards with family and friends and he never passed up a good laugh around the table.
He loved animals deeply and cherished car rides to Tim Hortons with his dogs by his side. But above all else, Ernie loved his family. He was dedicated, loyal, compassionate, and strong; a mentor, a leader, and a steady hand to those who needed one. His quiet acts of kindness, warm hugs, and reassuring words will be remembered forever.
In keeping with Ernie’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a small family gathering will be held in the warmer weather to celebrate his life.
In memory of Ernie, donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that his love surrounds us still. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. I was shocked to read of his passing. I remember him as a young boy. His brother Robert and I were best friends and I remember spending much time at their house playing ball hockey, crokinole, and watching hockey on TV. We even skipped school to watch Team Canada beat the Russians in 1972. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Ernie was a wonderful person who had a heart as huge as the universe! The time spent at my cottage was wonderful..especially when ernie agreed to paint the floor in the main cabin! What a chore..and I paid him with a piece of driftwood for his garden!
