Obituary of Eileen Beck (née Vaughan)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eileen on May 9, 2026, at the age of 83.

Those who surrounded her with love were: Laurie Main (Kevin), Cheryl Beck (Henri Loisel), Dawne Thoms (Mike), and Kevin Beck; her grandchildren, who meant the world to her: Kristen Beck (Brad Noyes), Jessica Beck (Jeff Ward), Brittney Beck, Bradley Beck, Tyler Beck (Miranda), Braeden Thoms (Rebecka), Zach Main (Marissa Campos), Brycen Thoms, Tanner Main (Mia Weinhandl), and Brodie Thoms (Madison Handley); and her great-grandchildren, who lit up her days: Kailey Beck (Anthony Davis), Matthew Cotton, Mackenzie Dean Beck, Emma Beck, Turner Beck, Paislee Ward, and Dahlia Thoms. Eileen was also deeply cared for by Tammy Beck, Carl Lee and Greg Pledge. Predeceased by her mother Rachel Vaughan, father Charles Vaughan, stepfather Hubert Pickering and brothers Robert Vaughan & Sam Vaughan.

Eileen was born in Welland, and spent the majority of her life here. Over the years she worked in various retail roles and spent many years as a Lunch Supervisor at Empire School.

Eileen built a life defined by resilience, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. Remarkably independent and strong-willed, she raised six children on her own and created a home where everyone felt welcomed and loved.

She was the ultimate “sports grandma,” never missing an opportunity to watch her grandchildren play sports and cheer them on from the sidelines. She was a wonderful cook, and also enjoyed baking, especially with her grandchildren. Eileen also loved to travel. Whether travelling near or far, she cared less about the destination and more about being with her family. They were, without question, her greatest treasure.

A natural caregiver and a loyal friend, Eileen was always looking out for others. She will be remembered for her strength, her kind heart, and for her love of her family.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the teams at Welland Emergency and the NHS – Niagara Falls Site (Brock Wing and ICU), as well as EMS staff Kristen and Jordan, for the care and compassion shown to Eileen. Also, to all those who have supported the family with love and generous deliveries of food and condolences - it is greatly appreciated. A special thank-you is also extended to Kayleigh from Essentials Cremation and Burial Services for her gentle guidance and support.

In keeping with Eileen's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on July 11, 2026. Details to be finalized.
