Obituary of Edwin David Leroy Wellman

The family of the late Edwin David Leroy Wellman sadly announce his passing at the Niagara Health Services St. Catharines site on Monday, August 9, 2021 in his 83rd year. Ed is lovingly survived by his long-time partner, Lois Donaghue, her daughter, Tracy Riselli (Jamie), her son, Mark Donaghue (Tara) grandsons, AJ Reynolds - deceased (Robyn), Kasey Reynolds( Abigail), Mateo Riselli and Evan Donaghue, granddaughters, Piper Riselli, Bryna Donaghue and great-granddaughter, Camryn Reynolds, his godson, Cody Senyk, his sister, Hilda Wormald (Wellman) and many nieces and nephews. Ed is predeceased by his parents, Hansel David Wellman and Elsie Adelaide Wellman and his brother Stanley Wellman.

Ed was a long-time employee of General Motors, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed scouring the countryside with his horse, Appaloosa Joe, days on the water with Let’s Boogie, hunting and fishing with his buddies, car shows with his antique cars and in his later years, his many adventures on the farm he loved. He particularly enjoyed that the grandchildren spent many summer days with their friends at the farm riding their ATV’s and building a fort along the escarpment. He enjoyed hosting parties at the farm with a live band, wagon rides through the field, and a pig roast. He planned haunted Halloween parties and bonfires with the grandchildren.

Ed had been a diabetic for many years and the family would especially like to thank the staff of the Nephrology and Dialysis departments at the hospital for their kind care and support during his illness. Ed is finally at peace.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ed’s life will be planned at a later date.

In the event you are considering a donation, the family would ask that you consider DIABETES CANADA, THE KIDNEY FOUNDATION or the NEPHROLOGY DEPARTMENT at the St. Catharines Hospital who have provided support and care to Ed over the past many years.

Ed’s Love and Friendship over the past forty plus years has meant a lot to Cody and I. He was a wonderful Godfather and dearly loved. Never to be forgotten.

In loving memory ...

Love and condolences from niece and God daughter Cathy Leech (Robert) and great niece and nephews. Fond memories throughout my life celebrating with uncle Ed. As a child I fed him grapes as he lay on the livingroom floor. Ed gave me rides on his horse in Beamsville. We had many boat rides and family reunions together. Ed was loved and will be missed.
