Obituary of Edgar Enrique Medina Tovar

Passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Garden City Manor in St. Catharines, at the age of 76. He has been reunited with his beloved wife of over 50 years, Maria Fanny Lopez Zapata, who passed away just 10 days before him. Together with Fanny, they created a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories with the family they built.

Edgar will be fondly remembered as an adored Papito by his daughter, Diana Patricia Medina Lopez (Jose Helmer Giraldo), and his son, Carlos Federico Medina Lopez (Mayola Garcia). He was also a cherished Abuelito to Maria Elisa Medina Garcia, Mariana Medina García, and Juan David Giraldo Medina. Edgar held a special place in the hearts of his sisters and brothers; Alfonzo, Cecilia, Amparo, Mariela, Miriam, Alberto, and Lucy, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Edgar was born and a lifelong citizen of Colombia. Despite the responsibilities of work and raising a family, he pursued higher education as a mature adult student at St. Colombia University, where he earned degrees in law and accounting, following in the professional footsteps of his family members.

Edgar was known for his artistic talent and love for drawing. He was known as a true gentleman, always ready to lend a helping hand to others. His impeccable sense of style was evident as he meticulously dressed up with pride and his outfits were always perfectly pressed. A true, well-educated gentleman, Edgar's organizational skills were mastered by years of professional work, education and having established a handy collection of highlighters!

He found joy in preparing delicious meals for his loved ones, creating lasting memories around the dining table. Some of the best memories with Edgar revolve around his role as an Abuelito. He was proud, fun and would do anything to create special memories with his grandchildren, like letting them drive while sitting on his lap. As a man with strong faith, Edgar also enjoyed attending church services with his wife and family. His spiritual guidance was also given as part of his role as a Godfather to his nephew, Diego. In his leisure time, he found pleasure in playing soccer as a goalie for over 20 years, as well as engaging in volleyball matches, long walks and bike rides. He will be fondly remembered for his dedication, professionalism and accomplishments by all who knew him.

In accordance with Edgar’s wishes, a private gathering and prayers were held at Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland. Cremation has taken place. As Edgar has embarked on his journey of eternal life, may the love and cherished memories he leaves behind continue to guide and comfort his family and all who were touched by his kindness and warmth.
