It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug, who left us on November 27, 2023, at the age of 79, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Doug was the beloved husband to the late Marilyn and a loving brother to Lesley (Dave) Laurence. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Helen.Doug had a passion for photography, a talent that led him to work for the Don Mills Mirror in Toronto in earlier years. Approximately 20 years ago, Doug and his wife made the decision to relocate to the scenic beauty of Niagara, where they found a new home and a welcoming community. He will be remembered for his artistic spirit and keen eye for photography allowed him to capture the beauty of the world around him, leaving us with lasting memories.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Meals on Wheels, the support provided by the Alzheimer Society of Niagara. Cremation has taken place, honouring Doug's wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to Meals on Wheels Niagara or the Alzheimer Society of Niagara, organizations that supported Doug in the most recent months of his life.

I knew Doug as a boy, when my family would enjoy the hospitality of his parents at their place out in the country. I don’t remember the name of the town. While they visited we would run through the fields with his sister Les and my brother Greg, investigating barns, frightening cows, hopping fences, getting muddy and having the time of our lives. I remember an image – him at sunset in silhouette leading us back, telling us it was time to get going home. I see he has gone on ahead. Once again. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
