Obituary of Doris Janet Cosby

Surrounded by her loving family, Doris Janet Cosby passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 92. She leaves behind a legacy filled with treasured memories and deep love. Though her family will miss her dearly, they take comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Wellington (Wally).

Doris was the cherished mother of Carey Ellis (Hoss) Tufts, Karen (Chris) Ross, and Michael Cosby. She was a proud and devoted grandmother of Carey-Lee (Jeff) Sider and a loving great-grandmother of Carthan and Jacob. She will also be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Sharon (Norm) Berard, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. Doris shared a particularly special bond with Alison Jacklin, whose friendship brought her great joy over the years.

Born in Schumacher, Ontario, Doris spent much of her life in Timmins before settling in Niagara. She was predeceased by all of her siblings and carried with her a lifetime of cherished memories while remaining deeply connected to those she loved. Family was at the heart of everything Doris did. She loved bringing people together, never forgetting birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions.

Whether she was canning peaches, tomatoes, and homemade chili sauce or baking one of her famous apple pies, Doris created traditions that became treasured family memories. She was an exceptional cook, an avid knitter, and had a well-known love of owls, collecting them in many different shapes and forms. With her wonderful sense of humour, warm personality, and gift for conversation, she made everyone feel welcome and formed lifelong friendships wherever she went.

Doris was deeply involved in her church community and dedicated many years of her life to coaching bowling for young adults with special needs. Always eager to try new things, she learned to swim later in life and found great enjoyment in it.

She held a special love for animals, especially her beloved black Labrador, Liz, who was by her side for 17 years, her unique five-toed cat, Carter, and her beloved granddog, Remmy.

In accordance with Doris' wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service has been arranged through Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Family and friends are invited to attend the interment of her cremated remains at Lundy's Lane Cemetery, 7489 Lundy's Lane, Niagara Falls, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.

Those wishing to honour Doris' memory may consider making a donation to Niagara Support Services (NSS), which would be greatly appreciated by her family.

Doris holds a special place in my heart and I am going to miss her. She could always be counted on to share stories of the good old days. Family was very important to her and I was lucky to be included as part of that family. My heart hurts for all of you, but I know that together you will get through this. I promise to always be there for Michael. Sending you all hugs at this very difficult time.

Dear Doris, we won’t forget your smiling face, your happy presence and your tender heartedness toward everyone. To the family, we offer heartfelt condolences. We spoke to Doris a few weeks before her passing, we intended to visit her again. We are very sad to hear about her passing and will miss her very much. We are happy she can be reunited with loved ones and family, she often spoke about her family during visits. We were very happy to see the picture of her in her younger years embracing her husband, we had never met him and can remember them that way in love together and in their younger years. We will continue to pray for you Doris and your family.
