Obituary of Doreena Velma Dorsay (née Dorsey)
Sadly, we announce that on Thursday, June 13, 2024 Doreena Velma Dorsay (née Dorsey) passed away at the age of 82. She has been reunited with her husband of 59 years Hughie (2019) and her parents Gordon and Thelma Dorsey (née Flowers). She was a loving mother to her daughters Doreena and Joy, a devoted gramma to Shannon Hagen (Robert Emmerton) and Shamus Hagen (Katie), a cherished great-gramma to Travis Emmerton, Legend Emmerton and Mayden Emmerton, a dear sister to Barbara Hilts, Donna Zarias (Demetrius) and Diane Alston (Joseph). She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and by Lucy, her beloved fur-grandbaby.Doreena managed the KFC in London, Ontario for many years making countless friends in the community. The impact she made will leave lasting imprints in each person's life.
She loved playing Bingo, taking trips to Florida to visit her sister, and was a strong supporter of the Blue Jays and the Raptors. We're not sure if she enjoyed the sport or watching the players! She found joy in knitting and being able to provide hats and blankets to every family member in their favourite color. She had a thirst for knowledge and was often found exploring family history and genealogy. If you wanted to know something about her family, she was the person you'd ask. Doreena was known for making delicious food for get-togethers and baking cakes or cupcakes for birthdays for all family members. She had a love for dancing and a vivid imagination, often storytelling in her unique way. She cherished the annual Freedom Seekers family reunions in Port Dalhousie, where memories were made year after year.
She will be terribly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her but especially by her close friend for 35 years Julia. The family would like to thank the staff at NHS-Niagara Falls Site and Douglas Memorial Hospital as well as the P.S.W's for all the care and comfort they provided to Doreena in her time of need.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Doreena's life will be held here in Niagara and in London at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Niagara Falls. If desired, donations in memory of Doreena may be made to Hospice Niagara.
